If you have a passion to lead others in the sport, health and fitness industry, then this is the course for you. The first thing you will notice about this course is that you will have many opportunities to apply your practice, with consistent reflection on theory to practice. You will apply field and laboratory fitness testing protocols, coach in a range of settings, carry-out health consultation, develop diet plans, physiological, psychological and biomechanical assessments, sport development and business planning. You will be studying and developing all of the essential skills you need as a coach, aspiring teacher, health promotion/training or continuing professional development personal trainer. A broad range of current research will be reviewed and available for you to support your learning– with access to key lectures, seminars, guest speakers, workshops, and a fully equipped sports facility including: sports hall, dance studio, gym, 3g football pitch and fitness-testing suite. Assessment is through written assignments, presentations, practical and theoretical exams, and a research project in the second year. You will be assessed working on real-life projects, such as coaching sport in local primary and secondary schools or developing sport and physical activity in the wider community. You may also carry out fitness-testing on athletes from local sports clubs. This foundation degree introduces you to Higher Education academic -and essential, work- skills. All lecturing staff are university graduates and many are qualified to postgraduate level as well as being involved in research and professional development in the areas of sports science, exercise referral, health, sports injuries and coaching. The first thing you will notice about this course is that you will have the opportunity to focus on your career aspiration via the work-based learning module and specialist module options on offer. This final year Level 6 programme focuses on the practical application of theoretical constructs in an industry relevant manner, with the vision to enhance both employability and entrepreneurial acumen. It aims to deliver a broader understanding of the scientific underpinnings of public health, sport performance, development and education. This innovative approach will better prepare you for the demands of a continually evolving sport and health related industry in a sustainable manner. If you love sport and fitness, this is the course for you! You will develop your skills and knowledge in the sports health and fitness sector. This is your first step to becoming a sports coach, PE teacher or fitness instructor! The first thing you’ll notice about this course is that it’s about both practical and theoretical learning – you’ll be spending a lot of time in our on-campus sports hall, a fully equipped gym and 3G pitch. You’ll be looking at everything: strength & conditioning techniques, sporting skills and the beginnings of tactical awareness, along with teamwork and leadership. In addition, you will be carrying out your very own personal fitness plan as you progress through the course. In essence, you’ll be developing all of the essential skills you need to start your journey towards a career in sport, health and fitness. Cornwall College has a selection of college sports teams, which regularly train and compete at a participatory and competitive level. A large selection of enrichment activities are also available, including table tennis, badminton, recreational football, basketball and circuit training. We have excellent links with local employers and sports clubs, providing amazing work experience and volunteering opportunities. Many of our students have gone on to employment further afield or abroad. As a Level 2 course, this diploma is all about introducing you to everything from the theory behind how the body works, to the practical steps needed to plan and coach your very own sport/fitness session. Sports Science CAVA Access To Higher Education Diploma

This is an exciting new diploma that is currently only being offered at two colleges in England (including Duchy College, Stoke Climsland). It offers a range of subject areas including Physiology, Psychology, Bio-mechanics, Exercise and Performance etc. This course has been developed with the assistance of Sussex University and The University of St. Mark and St. John (Marjon) and offers a wide range of opportunities for people wanting to progress on to university degrees in Sports, Psychology, Coaching, Fitness etc. This is an academic diploma so most of the study will be classroom based however opportunities will be made available to get involved in practical work using our extensive facilities and those at our partner university. Access courses are designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to Higher Education. There is a very high level of academic and personal support throughout the course, which can help if you need to combine study with part-time employment and family commitments. Please Note: This course is only available to applicants who are 19+ This course would suit people needing to progress on to higher educations in the following areas; Sports Coaching, Sports Psychology, Sports Physiotherapy, Sports Science, Sport Performance, Physiology, etc. Some study to take place with our Higher Education partners.
