This Level 2 qualification is the ideal starting point if you want to pursue a career as a furniture designer and maker, with a particular focus on wood craft.

If you have a creative soul with practical ability, a course in furniture making may be an ideal route to a rewarding career. Furniture design is a specialised field where function and fashion collide. Furniture has evolved and changed with the times, some styles have remained constant throughout the years, while others have drastically changed or become obsolete.

We offer two ways to train in furniture design and making, either full-time at college or part-time as an apprentice. You may wish to start full-time and build your skills and confidence before moving on to an apprenticeship. Whatever your prior knowledge or experience, we can offer you a starting point on the road to a creative and rewarding career.

Apprenticeship route:

This qualification is also available as an apprenticeship, where you will work with an employer in the furniture making sector, while attending college on a day release basis. If you are interested in the apprenticeship route, our recruitment team can help you get started.

Bethany Noy Furniture Design & Making Level 3

Bethany discovered furniture making after a brief foray into various arts courses, looking for a creative outlet for her talents and passion for the medium of wood. Since completing her course Bethany has been awarded second place at the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen Awards.

“I was always into art and design and I did quite a few courses doing
textiles and sculpting and that sort of thing and really enjoyed working
with wood which led me to a course doing carpentry and joinery,
however that was more to do with roofs, doors and windows, but I
wanted to go down the more bespoke, creative route and ended up on
this furniture making course which is great.”
