Celebrating Apprenticeship Excellence

The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) set out to create something truly special when it launched The Apprenticeship Games, a unique initiative highlighting the skills, enthusiasm and drive of apprentices.

Launched in 2017, the Games have grown significantly in size and scope, becoming a sought-after event for regional businesses and organisations involved with apprenticeships. Hosted annually on different TCCG campuses, the Games bring together apprentice teams from various businesses for competitive events testing their mental, physical and creative skills.

This lively and engaging event aims to elevate the pride and profile of those in apprenticeships, with coverage shared across TCCG’s social media channels, reaching aspiring apprentices, parents and employers.

John Evans, principal and CE of TCCG, said: “We are incredibly proud to host the annual Apprenticeship Games and celebrate the valuable partnerships we have with regional employers.”

“The event has played a pivotal role in cementing relationships, fostering collaboration and inspiring innovative thinking. We have witnesses how communication and leadership skills have proven beneficial for our apprentices, not just at college but also in the workplace,” John added.

Partners, businesses and stakeholders have played a vital role in the Games’ success since their inception, contributing to its growth. Media interest has been notable, with a regional radio station broadcasting live from the event in 2019.

The Games expanded nationally in 2022 through a partnership with Bradford College, marking a significant milestone. Now in its seventh year, the Games have become a TCCG calendar highlight, fostering competition and providing apprentices with a unique networking opportunity.

Scheduled to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, the Games has attracted over 30 high profile businesses over the years, including Cornwall Council, Imerys, Pendennis, South West Water, Wales & West, BD, A&P, Eden Project, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, Ocean Housing Group, PALL Corporation, Mars Wrigley and more.
