This programme prepares you for a career in a variety of engineering disciplines and develops the concepts, knowledge, skills and techniques required for today’s competitive and dynamic engineering industry. The programme consists of core modules and a series of optional modules, allowing you to focus your learning in areas of interest. Modules of study in the fields of mechanical, electrical, design, production, marine and control engineering, are included to allow for a wide range of possible career goals. The modules have been written with the aid of industry to ensure that the content meets industry needs; they include current best practice and insight into the changing face of engineering technology. You will have a series of structured lectures, project-based practical activities and industrial visits to help inform and develop your learning. These activities will increase your ability to solve engineering problems, develop your project management skills and help you gain an understanding of the role of engineering in the modern technological world. All modules will consider the modern world of engineering and will contextualise material to reflect on engineering practice. It is suggested that you undertake around 150 hours of work experience in an engineering field to support your learning. We will help you to find an appropriate placement if you are unable to find your own.

Welding Skills - ARC/MIG (Evening)

This course is perfect if you are a complete beginner or have limited welding knowledge. Ideal if you want to learn a new skill, if you are creative, if you want to repair your own car or even a garden gate. On this course you will learn a basic understanding of the different Welding processes used in industry and at home. Gaining a basic understanding of Manual Metal ARC welding (stick) and Metal Arc Gas Shielded (MIG), covering Flat and H/V single weld beads, re-joining of runs, welding outside corner joints, Butt welds and horizontal/vertical fillet welds on 3-6mm thick plate. The MIG/Mags welding section will cover the setting-up of the machine (gas, volts and wire speed etc) for correct operation to deposit welds in the horizontal/vertical and Flat welding positions, material thickness 1-6mm. " This course is now full. You will require fire resistant overalls and steel toe capped boots/shoes for this course. Standards Apprenticeship - Engineering Operations

This Level 2 apprenticeship is ideal if you want to start your journey to becoming a qualified engineer. The apprenticeship route provides an ideal foundation for a wide range of skills within the engineering field. You will learn a range of practical skills, be able to follow technical drawings and work carefully and methodically. The course is 75% practical workshop based with 25% classroom theory work. You will have to complete a range of practical assessments to a high standard alongside reports that detail what you have done and whether you met the required standard. All training is provided by ex-industry experts with many years within their field to guide you through your learning and assessment within the course. Units include: Health and safety Engineering environmental awareness Fabrication Welding CAD design Hand fitting Turning and Milling machining Once you have completed the two qualifications (Skills and Knowledge) you will progress to an End Point Assessment, where you will be assessed on your skills and knowledge over a range of tasks and an interview. The skills and types of land-based engineering include diagnostics repair and testing, all in the context of diesel and petrol engines, equipment controlled by GPS technology and integrated into environmental information – a fantastic mix of innovation and problem solving. It’s not all about farming either, everything concerned with the upkeep and control of the countryside, forestry, sports grounds and open spaces involves the application of engineering solutions. We offer both full-time and apprenticeship routes for school leavers. Once you have completed the Level 3 qualification you will be able to work all over the world in a range of careers maintaining and repairing land-based machinery and technology. Modern agriculture is amazing and if you look more closely you will see things that will truly impress you. No longer is this an industry caught in a technological backwater. The career opportunities are fantastic and those colleges, training providers and universities involved will tell you that the job opportunities are excellent with many more jobs than there are people to fill them.
