This course is aimed at beginners who will learn the basic use of a digital camera. With simple techniques to improve portraits, landscapes, travel photography, special occasions, and competition entries.
You will learn what the controls on your camera are for, and how settings can be used to give effects that can enhance your images. This will include an understanding of exposure and what settings combine to give the right results; what types of image file and colour settings are the best for your camera; basic control of natural, artificial and flash lighting and basic use of photo software; tips for improving the composition of landscapes, portraits, nature and close-up (macro) images.

Welding Skills - ARC/MIG (Evening)

This course is perfect if you are a complete beginner or have limited welding knowledge. Ideal if you want to learn a new skill, if you are creative, if you want to repair your own car or even a garden gate.
On this course you will learn a basic understanding of the different Welding processes used in industry and at home. Gaining a basic understanding of Manual Metal ARC welding (stick) and Metal Arc Gas Shielded (MIG), covering Flat and H/V single weld beads, re-joining of runs, welding outside corner joints, Butt welds and horizontal/vertical fillet welds on 3-6mm thick plate. The MIG/Mags welding section will cover the setting-up of the machine (gas, volts and wire speed etc) for correct operation to deposit welds in the horizontal/vertical and Flat welding positions, material thickness 1-6mm.

You will require fire resistant overalls and steel toe capped boots/shoes for this course. Also due to Health and Safety guidelines we would recommend that you wear glasses instead of contact lenses if you require them.

Improving Your Digital Photography (Evening)

On this course you will learn advanced techniques to improve the quality, lighting and composition of your images. Advanced use of natural, artificial and studio flash lighting. Common uses of photo software. Special techniques; including Panoramas, HDR, and Focus Stacking.
The course will take a deeper look at producing high quality landscapes, portraits and close-up photography. This will include the use of well-known software to give the best final image from each exposure, although the emphasis will always be on getting the best results from your camera. We will look at ways of controlling or taking advantage of challenging lighting conditions, and this will include a studio session to gain experience of artificial lighting techniques.
Students are encouraged each week to try out what they have leant and the photographs are viewed by the group the following week.
This course would be ideally suited to students who have already completed our Beginners Guide to Digital Photography course or are already at this level (please see our Beginners course description). Improving Your Landscape Photography Workshop

This workshop will start with a trip to one or two local scenic sites (subject to weather conditions).
Once there you will learn how to set up and use your digital camera to give the best RAW files for processing in software off camera. Covering techniques for HDR, focus stacking, panorama, selecting the correct exposure (and metering techniques) in challenging lighting conditions and improving your composition.
We will then return to the college to process the images to give the best quality and introduce desired effects. Finally producing a print of your best image.
