BA (Hons) Art & Design Practice

This programme has been developed as a progression to honours to make it possible for foundation degree graduates (and others where appropriate), to progress to achieve an honours degree in the interdisciplinary art and design area. This final year is unique to the South West and provides an exciting and vibrant Level 6 qualification with a continued emphasis on you, the learner and the development of your professional identity within the creative industries.
You will develop a focused innovative practice combining particular interdisciplinary art and design interests. In particular you will have the staff expertise and practical up to date facilities to enable you to explore, Print Making, Ceramics, Painting, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Mould Making & Fine Art Textiles. This is supported by an advanced skills and knowledge set reflecting your particular direction through the programme. You will be expected to develop an independent, autonomous practice, synthesise prior learning and present a public realisation of your work. The programme aims to facilitate within graduates an enthusiasm, curiosity and flexibility to equip you for a future in developing challenging art and design projects, whilst also operating across a range of arts careers and creative practices.
The programme aims to be a unique blend of traditional, contemporary and innovative approaches to learning. The curriculum is enquiry driven to provide you with a centred active education. Its design deliberately discourages the reductive question ‘What do I need to do to pass this module?’ by providing a framework which begs the question ‘Can I do this?’ and developing an enquiring attitude. This is consistent with the need for workers in the creative industries to be able to apply in-depth subject knowledge to a variety of circumstances.

Creative Craft - Your Road to Wellbeing

On this course you will be able to develop your creative skills by working on a project of your choice with the help and support of the tutor. This could be anything from still life drawing and painting, sketching, perspective drawing, textiles, crochet, sewing machine techniques, card making, water colours and photography.
The tutor will give you guidance to achieve your goals and you can adapt them to make your own creations.
Your road to wellbeing courses are relaxed and informal, enabling you to improve your wellbeing and mental health, building your self-confidence, and a great way to make friends.
Our courses are for anyone aged 19 plus who suffers from or who is recovering from mental ill health.
Our courses run one day per week, over 10 to 13 weeks per term. If you miss the start of the course don’t worry, you can join the courses at any time.

Picture Framing (DIY) Workshop
No Qualification • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne
This workshop will show you how to frame well on a budget.
All aspects of the basic framing of paintings, photos etc will be covered. Learn about mount cards, mouldings, conservation, decorative finishes, box frames and lots more. Everyone can try their hand at mitre and bevel mount cutting and information of local sources of materials and tools will be provided.
Please bring a pad and pen to make notes and any art work, frames or tools you may wish to discuss or need advice on.
You will make a picture frame at this workshop - aprox A4 size. So please bring a small size image (postcard, photo or original artwork) that you can bevel mount and put in the frame so this will need to be smaller than A4 size.
We suggest that you also bring a packed lunch and any other refreshments you may require.

Silver Jewellery - Improvers (Evening)

This course is designed for individuals who feel confident using basic jewellery techniques, such as those taught during the beginner course, e.g. soldering, piecing, filing etc (please see Silver Jewellery Beginners course description).
This course will enable the participant to create lovely silver jewellery with bezel set semi-precious stones advancing to the skill of setting popular locally found sea glass and will also include guidance on how to apply these techniques to design and make your own individual jewellery.
Materials are provided for the first project and your tutor will advise you of where you can buy any further materials you need. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron to protect your clothes and footwear should not be open toed. Please bring a note pad and pen.

Silver Jewellery Design & Practice - Intermediate (Evening)

This course is designed to continue from the Improvers class, to perfect your ongoing new skills and techniques, to create beautifully designed projects of your own.
You will be encouraged to work independently under the guidance of an experienced tutor who will work with you to develop a safe and confident approach to creating your own bespoke designs.
This course is not suitable for beginners.
Suitable for motivated, creative and enthusiastic silversmiths, confident in piercing, filing, soldering, polishing and finishing.

Painting a Coastal Path in Watercolour or Acrylic Beginners Workshop

This Intermediate evening course is suitable for those who have had some previous experience of pottery.
This course offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of processes inc. hand building, throwing, surface decoration and glaze application, while gaining or advancing your skills.
Through your personal projects there will be opportunities to develop existing skills and experience while learning new skills and techniques in a creative, relaxed atmosphere.
