Two Cornwall College apprentices have won top prizes at the Cornwall Hair and Beauty Awards, underlining the quality of local training and the strong partnerships the College has with employers in the industry.
The awards ceremony took place at the Penventon Hotel and brought together leading names from across Cornwall’s hair and beauty sector.
Summer Bale-Goldsworthy, an apprentice at Cornwall College Camborne, won the Most Talented Apprentice award after being nominated by a client and impressing judges with a portfolio of her work. Summer, who works at Salon Vanilla in Perranwell Station, was praised for her creativity and skill on the night.
Tean Netherton, an apprentice with Cornwall College St Austell, received the Most Talented Curly Hair Specialist award. Tean works for Caribou Hair & Beauty in Par and is already building a reputation for her specialist skills with clients.
Both winners were celebrated alongside a number of local businesses with strong ties to the College. Former student Roxi Cook was named Most Talented Barber and now works at Hamilton’s, which also won Best Barbershop. Caribou Hair, another employer linked to the College through recent apprentices, was awarded Best Hair Salon.
Kathryn Dennis, Apprenticeship Advisor at Cornwall College, said the awards showed the “value of apprenticeships for both learners and the industry”.
“We are incredibly proud of Summer and Tean for what they have achieved. These awards are a testament not only to their hard work and dedication, but also to the strong partnerships we have with local employers who support and guide our apprentices,” continued Kathryn.
“Apprenticeships are at the heart of what we do at Cornwall College, and it is inspiring to see our students making such a positive impact in the hair and beauty industry.”
