Course information

The objectives of this qualification are to gain knowledge and understanding of autism, including how to adopt a positive approach to supporting autistic individuals and the current legislative framework relating to autistic individuals and how different theories have developed over time.

Learners will understand how to support and manage transitions for autistic individuals, the range of therapeutic interventions and support available, co-occurring conditions and how to support communication and social interaction.

Bursaries available

The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) is committed to helping as many adults as possible to access our courses and we may be able to offer support with essential equipment such as a laptop to complete your online course. Students would need to meet the criteria for ASF funding and for bursary to be eligible for a laptop. The laptop would only be loaned for the duration of your studies, so you would not be allowed to keep it afterwards. All laptops would need to be returned to Cornwall College St Austell after completion of your course. (Cornwall College St Austell, Tregonissey Road, St Austell, Cornwall, PL25 4D).

Unit 1: Autism in context
Unit 2: Positive behavioural support for autistic individuals
Unit 3: Understand support and management of transitions for autistic individuals
Unit 4: Therapeutic interventions and support available for autistic individuals and co-occurring conditions
Unit 5: Communication and social interaction with autistic individuals
Unit 6: Safeguarding and resilience in autism

Aged 19+ at the beginning of the academic year and will need to have the right to study in the UK and been a resident for a minimum of 3 years.

The qualification is assessed by internally set and marked assessments subject to external quality assurance. Where indicated in the unit specifications, assessment must meet the requirements of the identified assessment strategy/principles.

Materials for internal assessment must be submitted to The E-Assessor Pro Platform for approval prior to use and must be mapped to the relevant unit, learning outcome and assessment criteria. All learning outcomes must be met to achieve a Pass – there is no grading.
