Course information

The Level 2 Sports Diploma at Cornwall College Camborne provides a broad and engaging introduction to the sports industry, allowing learners to develop their practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and confidence across a wide range of sporting contexts. Whether your main interest is Rugby, Football, Netball, or another sport of your choice, the course supports your progression into further study or employment within sport, fitness, and coaching.

You will explore how the body works during exercise, how athletes think and behave in performance environments, and what it takes to become an effective sports performer. Through both classroom learning and practical sessions, you will develop the essential skills required for success in sport.

The Level 2 Sports Diploma combines theory, practical performance, and vocational experience to help you build the foundations for a future in sport. Through engaging lessons, coaching-based activities, fitness training, and real-world placements, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed to move confidently into Level 3 study, apprenticeships, or employment in the sports and leisure industry.

Learners on the course will gain a broad and practical understanding of the sport and fitness industry by exploring a range of key topics that develop both their knowledge and performance. They will study how to improve fitness for sport and exercise, understand the body’s structure and function through anatomy and physiology, and learn how the mind influences sports performance.

Through practical sports performance sessions and personal fitness training, learners will enhance their skills, techniques, and physical abilities in a variety of sports. They will also investigate how the body responds to exercise, how to design safe and effective training programmes, and how lifestyle choices impact well-being. In addition, students will complete a sports-related project, gain valuable industry insight through work experience, and develop an understanding of facility operations within sport and leisure settings. Finally, they will build essential knowledge of sports injuries, including prevention and basic treatment, preparing them for further study or future roles in the sport and fitness sector.
