If you have a passion to lead others in the sport, health and fitness industry, then this is the course for you. The first thing you will notice about this course is that you will have many opportunities to apply your practice, with consistent reflection on theory to practice. You will apply field and laboratory fitness testing protocols, coach in a range of settings, carry-out health consultation, develop diet plans, physiological, psychological and biomechanical assessments, sport development and business planning. You will be studying and developing all of the essential skills you need as a coach, aspiring teacher, health promotion/training or continuing professional development personal trainer. A broad range of current research will be reviewed and available for you to support your learning– with access to key lectures, seminars, guest speakers, workshops, and a fully equipped sports facility including: sports hall, dance studio, gym, 3g football pitch and fitness-testing suite. Assessment is through written assignments, presentations, practical and theoretical exams, and a research project in the second year. You will be assessed working on real-life projects, such as coaching sport in local primary and secondary schools or developing sport and physical activity in the wider community. You may also carry out fitness-testing on athletes from local sports clubs. This foundation degree introduces you to Higher Education academic -and essential, work- skills. All lecturing staff are university graduates and many are qualified to postgraduate level as well as being involved in research and professional development in the areas of sports science, exercise referral, health, sports injuries and coaching. Gardening - Your Road To Wellbeing

On this course you will develop your gardening skills whilst working as part of the team to maintain and enhance community centre grounds. As well as planting herbs, plants and shrubs you will also learn how to take cuttings, propagate, and maintain and develop the established gardens at one of our off-site locations. Richmond House, Penzance – Wednesdays 10am – 12:30pm and 1pm – 3:30pm Liskerrett Centre, Liskeard – Thursdays 10am – 4pm Coach House, Liskeard – Fridays 10am – 3pm Richmond House has a small greenhouse, many containers and a small vegetable area and fruit trees. Liskerrett Centre has a polytunnel, containers and areas suitable for growing a variety of produce and fruit trees. You will also help support the community store within the centre. The Coach House has a large polytunnel, small greenhouse, sheds, many containers and a small vegetable area and fruit trees. It is a peaceful area to learn gardening skills, how to use plants in a culinary and medicinal way, designing the garden, companion planting, composting and organic gardening. At all locations you will be encouraged to focus on areas of interest to you with tutor support. Our road to wellbeing courses are relaxed and informal, enabling you to improve your wellbeing and mental health, building your self-confidence, and they are a great way to make friends. Our courses are for anyone aged 19+ who is experiencing or recovering from mental ill-health. Our courses run one day per week, over 10 to 13 weeks per term. This degree offers an excellent opportunity to increase both your academic skills and your employability. Your second and third years allow you to select optional modules which suit your career aspirations. You can expect a fun, relaxed and educational experience. We will be looking at healthy living and what this means to each of us. Each week we will start our session together with a gentle, fun and inclusive yoga class. This will be chair-based and accessible for all, including wheelchair users. Movement will be slow, gentle and involves lots of prop such as scarves, massage balls and sound to ensure that everyone finds joy in feeling embodied moving their bodies. After our yoga session, we will cook a healthy and nutritious meal together - developing healthy habits, and independent living skills.

Ceramics - Your road to wellbeing

On this course you will learn several hand-building, and clay-modelling techniques, and ceramic decorative processes. This programme provides progression for graduates of the FdSc in Veterinary Nursing or Animal Health and Management, or equivalent programmes. It is a contemporary and relevant Level 6 qualification, run over one year for full time students or two years for part time students, based mainly at our Stoke Climsland campus. The programme incorporates a range of core and optional modules which ensure relevance for students who intend to work in any part of the animal health or veterinary industry. In addition, some option strands will be primarily aimed at Veterinary Nursing graduates, enabling them to develop specialist areas of interest and facilitate progression within practice. You will explore current issues in the industry and are encouraged to investigate areas of your interest. An Honours Project is completed as part of the year. The modules are closely linked to industry and students will be encouraged to support their learning with appropriate work experience. Links with Dartmoor Zoological Park have developed in the past few years and there are sound opportunities for you to broaden your experiences to a wider range of exotic species, including big cats, wolves, monkeys, capybara, tapirs and wallabies.We also work closely with a number of other animal organisations strengthening our links within the industry. This course is also available with Science Gateway, perfect for you if you would like to study any of the science-based Foundation Degrees (FdSc) we offer, but don’t have the right qualifications or grades to do so.
