
Taste of success at WorldSkills UK
A foundation learning student at Cornwall College Camborne, has secured a well-deserved spot in the National Qualifiers of WorldSkills UK, in the Restaurant Service category.
Monique Skittrall is through to the next stage of the prestigious competition, which showcases skills and expertise across a range of industries, positioning her among the top contenders in the country in her category.
This year saw the highest number of entries for the competitions, a spokesperson for WorldSkills explained: “the standard has been very high, so well done for getting through to the next stage, the nationals.”
Expressing her enthusiasm, Monique said: “I feel thrilled and excited, I had to conquer my nerves – as I can sometimes get quite shy around new people.”
“In the future, I would love to work in the hospitality industry, my ideal job role would be front of house, for example receptionist, waitress or bar staff,” she continued.
Ruth Dixcee, senior study programme manager at Cornwall College Camborne, part of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), expressed great pride in Monique’s accomplishments.
“We are incredibly proud of Monique and how far she has come. It’s no small feat to be shortlisted for an event like WorldSkills, particularly the National Qualifier. As a team and as a college, we wish her the best of luck for the upcoming competition and all her future endeavours,” added Ruth.
The next round of WorldSkills UK are scheduled to take place on Wednesday 28th June, providing Monique with a platform to demonstrate her exceptional skills and talent in Restaurant Services.
This achievement showcases the dedication, hard work, and support Monique has received from staff at Cornwall College Camborne, who continue to provide best quality support to all students.
