Dental Nursing Diploma

From a general check-up to root canal work, as a dental nurse you will be required to have a reassuring and caring nature as it will be your job to look after the patients. You will also need great communication and organisational skills as you will be responsible for looking after the equipment and maintaining high levels of cleanliness. Successful completion of the course will enable you to become a qualified dental nurse and register with the General Dental Council. New apprenticeship standards are being introduced to focus skills training more on specific career roles within industry. These government changes mean the apprenticeship skills development programme is written with employers ensuring you are much more work ready for a specific role by the time you complete your training. As part of your course you will be required to be employed in a trainee dental nurse position.Your employer will give you all the hands-on practical experience you need to become a fully qualified dental nurse. You will need great communication and organisational skills, plus a caring manner to succeed in this industry. You will be required to attend college on 1 day per week. Completion of this course will allow you to progress on to further studies at other universities such as: BSc Dental Therapy & Hygiene or BSc (Hons) Dental Therapy.

The qualification is structured to provide time for gallery visits, collaborative projects and work experience, alongside regular sketchbook work, contextual studies, specialist workshops and portfolio building. The timetable also allows you to study for your Maths and English GCSE’s should you need to. The course begins with fun projects and a variety of skills workshops that are taught to the whole group. Over time you will be able to steer projects to be themed to your own interests or chosen art or design specialism. You will soon become a more independent learner who is able to come up with original ideas, write your own project proposals, develop sketchbook pages and create finished pieces that you are proud of. If you choose to study at our St Austell campus you will work as part of The Creative and Digital Academy, collaborating on a wide range of projects, performances and exhibitions with fellow creativity. Art – Your road to wellbeing

On this course you will learn a variety of mixed media, methods and process’s to produce creative art work. By practicing and developing your skills through observation and experimental techniques. Projects cover in- depth; painting, drawing, printmaking and mixed media. Lessons are flexible and relaxed, with the emphasis of helping you to lose your fears and develop your own individual creative styles. The tutor will give you guidance to achieve your goals and you can adapt them to make your own creations. Your road to wellbeing courses are relaxed and informal, enabling you to improve your wellbeing and mental health, building your self-confidence, and a great way to make friends. Our courses are for anyone aged 19 plus who is experiencing or recovering from mental ill health. Our courses run one day per week, over 10 to 13 weeks per term. If you miss the start of the course don’t worry, you can join the courses at any time.

Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health NCFE Certificate

Assessing Vocational Achievement City & Guilds Certificate

This course is suitable for practitioners who need to be qualified to use all methods of assessment – i.e. those who will be carrying out the role of an assessor in a work environment and vocationally related situation (i.e. classroom/workshop/simulated environments). Early Years Educator CACHE Diploma

This course is designed to meet the needs of motivated, enthusiastic people interested in a career working with children or who wish to progress on to university. This nationally recognised Level 3 course leads to the achievement of Early Years Educator status, recommended by the Department for Education (DfE) as the full and relevant qualification required to undertake such roles as working with children under 5 as a Keyworker in a Nursery or Early Years Foundation Stage setting or as a Teaching Assistant in a Reception class in Primary schools. It is a ‘gateway’ qualification for many other careers within the Children’s Workforce such as Portage Worker, Family Support Worker, SENCO or Children’s Health Support worker.  Those who wish to continue into Higher Education will gain UCAS points which will enable them to progress into careers such as Early Years or Primary Teacher, Social Worker, Speech & Language Therapist or Play Therapist among others. We have past students who are now in management and leadership roles working in a range of employment positions and provisions including Nursery, Pre School and Primary School settings throughout Devon and Cornwall. We aim to set high standards in our teaching in order to ensure that our students when they qualify are striving for outstanding practice in their work settings. We have trained whole staff teams at levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 in settings which, as a result of their excellent practice have been graded by Ofsted as Outstanding.

Practical Horticulture – City & Guilds Level 1

This course is run at CROP Gardens, Plymouth, a horticultural site managed by Livewell. This is an accredited course focussing upon the fundamental practical skills in horticulture, you will be able to learn skills such as planting out, preparing ground, pruning, using a mower, maintaining turf or constructing a path. There are various plots and poly-tunnels and you will have the opportunity to plant, propagate and grow a variety of plants and produce. Your Road to Wellbeing courses are relaxed and informal, enabling you to improve your wellbeing and mental health whilst building your self-confidence and a great way to make friends. Our courses run one day per week, over 10 to 13 weeks per term. This is a one year course starting in September each year. An award, certificate or diploma in Practical Horticulture Skills is for young people (16+) and adults getting started in the horticulture industry. You don’t need any previous experience or a current work placement.

The course runs from September until the end of June/early July. This is a challenging course and it is expected that students will complete a minimum of 15 hours of independent study each week. Students may access college facilities on the days that they are not taught with some evening study available. Please also be advised that most universities require work experience to complement your UCAS application-therefore it is highly recommended that you are working within the health care sector in either a voluntary or paid capacity.
