Online NCFE L2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (Evening Course)
If you wish to become a fully qualified counsellor, develop helping skills or if you are simply interested in the field of counselling then the NCFE Counselling Studies at Level 2 is your starting point qualification.
The course costs £510 for those who are self-funding, however fees are waived for low income applications. We have two intakes, one in September and one in March. All students who successfully complete their course, from both intakes, will be able to apply to further counselling courses that start in the following September.
The course will introduce you to counselling theory, we will focus on the Person-Centred paradigm as this is the counselling approach which underpins all our counselling training at Cornwall College. You will get the chance to practice counselling skills with your peers and receive feedback from tutor observations. You will also learn about the professional boundaries and ethical standards that counsellors adhere to and the wide-ranging opportunities that a career in counselling can offer.
Please note, that there is no automatic progression route between our courses. Each qualification requires a rigorous assessment process including an interview, and due to limited places, you may be placed on a waiting list or may not be successful on your first application.

What you will learn
The NCFE provides an insight into how to develop a safe and professional therapeutic relationship with a client and how to practice a range of counselling skills in an ethical and boundaried supportive environment.
You will learn about self-care as a practitioner and we will encourage self-reflective learning to help you assess your own competencies. By the end of the training, we hope that you will have learnt helpful supporting and listening skills.
These can enrich your own communication skills both in your personal and professional lives. We hope that you will have gained a broad introduction to the profession to help you decide if you wish to pursue a career as a fully qualified counsellor.
Entry requirements
Please apply through the Cornwall College Website. Applicants must be 19 years of age or over.
Assessment
You will be assessed through observations of your practical skills practice and through a written portfolio which you develop with the support of your tutor throughout the course. This demonstrates that you have reached a sufficient level of understanding around specific learning outcomes. The final draft is submitted to your tutor at the end of the course.
Progression
Once you have successfully completed the Level 2 NCFE Counselling course, you can apply to progress to our HE Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Counselling Studies or our HE Level 5 Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and Therapy, depending on your prior qualifications.
We host both courses for the University of Plymouth and the Level 5 Diploma carries BACP Gold Standard Accreditation, which enables you to practice independently as a fully qualified counsellor.
Successful completion of the HE Level 5 Diploma provides students the opportunity to top up their studies to achieve a BA (Hons) Counselling Studies at Level 6 which also carries a professional qualification as a counselling supervisor.
