What to expect at Graduation at Truro Cathedral

We look forward to welcoming you to graduation on Friday 10th November. Before you join us please read the information below to help you plan your journey and understand what happens on the day.

Car parking
Truro Cathedral is situated right in the centre of Truro and sadly does not have a car park for the general public. There are many pay and display car parks in Truro city centre, and park and ride systems if you don’t want to drive into the city. For information on getting there, parking, accommodation and eating out please visit www.visittruro.org.uk.

To avoid queues registration will be open two hours before each ceremony and arrival times will be arranged alphabetically by surname:

Ceremony 1
08:30 – 09:30 – surnames starting A-J
09:30 – 10:15 – surnames starting K-Z

Ceremony 2
12:00 – 13:00 – surnames starting A-J
13:00 – 13.45 – surnames starting K-Z

Upon arrival, please go to the Cathedral Café at the rear of the building (there will be directional signage from the main entrance and Old Bridge Street), where gowning, ticket collection and photography is located.

When you check in at the entrance of the Cathedral Café you will receive your guest tickets, ceremony guide (including seating allocation) and gain access to gowning and photography with Marston Events.

If there is not enough time to get your professional photography completed prior to the ceremony, you may return afterwards, the studios will remain set-up all day until 5pm. Please note assisted access to the cathedral will be via the ramped entrance to the gift shop next to the main entrance.

Cathedral doors open at 09:30 (09:15 for assisted seating) for ceremony 1 and 13:00 (12:45 for assisted seating) for ceremony 2. You must be in your seat 15 minutes before the start of your ceremony. Graduand seating has already been allocated, all guest seating is available on a first come first served basis (unless you have registered for disabled or assisted seating).

The ceremony will begin and will last approximately 1 hour. This will be followed by a half-an-hour drinks reception inside the cathedral. One drink voucher per person will be provided to you upon registration.

What should I do if I do not receive any graduation information?
If you expect to graduate in 2023 and have not been contacted by the end of September, please contact the Graduation team. graduation@cornwall.ac.uk

How much does it cost to go to my graduation ceremony?
Attendance at graduation for graduating students is free. However, graduating students must wear academic gowns, which can be hired through the Marston Events website. Guest tickets are charged at £10 each and are initially limited to two per student. Extra tickets can be pre-booked when you make your initial booking. You will be notified by email after bookings are closed when additional tickets are available.

When should I arrive for my ceremony?
Registration opens two hours before each ceremony. Please leave enough time to arrive, register, collect your guest tickets and pick up your gown. We recommend you arrive no later than one hour before your ceremony. Late arrivals will not be admitted to the cathedral.

How long does the ceremony last?
Ceremonies are approximately one hour long. Doors to the cathedral will open an hour before the ceremony. Ceremony doors will close 15 minutes before each ceremony start time, after which time admission will not be allowed and tickets no longer valid. Please note that your guests sit separately from you to facilitate the conferment of the awards.
