Get hands-on creating a friend's look for a night out, by trying out plaiting and twisting, using woven foils, cap-lights, curling and straightening.
Our experienced team will be on hand to help you familiarise yourself with colouring techniques used in the industry, as well as using styling equipment safely to achieve different effects.

Design, build and test an air cannon to fire a range of objects at targets, with prizes for most accurate and longest range

Take a tour of our television studio with a full 3 point black magic studio camera setup, control room and production space, not to mention our bespoke Foley sound studio and edit suites.

Learn about the 'camera obscura', an ancestor of the modern photographic camera, and work with your friends to create a giant version that you can actually step inside.
Next up, you'll learn to take amazing portrait photos on our professional cameras or even on your own phone!
Learn to set up various lighting scenarios, ranging from using natural light or lights you'd find around the house, to taking portraits in a full professionally lit studio

Boatbuilding & Marine Engineering

Let our knowledgeable and experienced staff help you navigate through the ebbs and flows of your journey to a future career in boatbuilding and the marine industry.
Rowing race - Compete as an individual and on behalf of your school - the top six scores from each school will be accumulated and a prize awarded to the overall winner.
Hammer Time! - How many hits does it take you to sink a 4 inch nail.
Take on the FMS knot challenge - Learn to tie specialist knots and test yourself against the clock.
Get your hands on some traditional boatbuilding tools and see if you can guess their use.

Childcare

Have fun creating forest friends, willow structures and houses for critters using natural resources. You'll interact with our computerised babies and pregnancy bumps and get messy with sensory play and learning.

Games Design

Broken into two sections, you'll explore the games design process, creating a basic First Person Shooter (FPS0 level in the game Unreal Development Kit (UDK)).
Learn how to draw and map and plan the layout ready to be created in the game engine. Then use this map to build your basic level, adding textures and 3D meshes to create your own environment.
The second part of the experience focuses on the concept and application of QA testing for video games.
Learn why it's important for companies and how it benefits the consumer by playtesting and producing simple bug reports using a template sheet. From checking spawn points, clipping issues and more, all the basics of how to playtest a game will be covered.
Our passionate team will be on hand to answer your questions, talk about your favourite games with and share their knowledge of creating a video game through practical environment building using 3D development software.

Horticulture

This session will offer students an opportunity to delve deeper into the world of plants and agriculture. The session will include a range of interactive activities designed to help students learn about the different aspects of horticulture and floristry.
In this session, students will be able to try their hands at floristry by creating a hairpin or a Terrarium. They will be given guidance from expert florists who will provide step-by-step instructions on how to create these designs. This task will help students develop their creativity and design skills while learning about the different types of flowers and plants that are commonly used in floristry.

Agriculture

This session will offer students an opportunity to delve deeper into the world of agriculture. The session will include a range of interactive activities designed to help students learn about the different aspects of agriculture.
This session will be a machinery challenge, where students will be given the opportunity to operate different types of farm machinery. This activity will help students gain an understanding of the practical side of agriculture and the various machines and tools that are used in modern farming practices.

Construction & Carpentry

Sharpen your carpentry skills by making a college-branded wooden smartphone stand to take home and keep. We've also got a demo of our CNC router lined up for you to see how it works.
For bricklaying, you'll work as a team to construct a self-supporting archway and test its strength.

Travel & Tourism

Through a range of themed games and practical activities, you'll get a taste of a career working in the Travel & Tourism sector and the importance of exemplary customer service skills.
Take a 'flight' to your holiday destination before heading off on a whistle stop tour of famous sights from around the world.
Along the way, you'll learn lots of practical knowledge, including how to check-in and board passengers for a flight, carry out a safety demonstration, make PA announcements and deliver an inflight food service. How to conduct a coach transfer.
Finish off your 'trip' with a takeaway sustainable souvenir to keep from our travel photo booth.

Plumbing & Electrical

Once you've tried out your soldering skills making a copper keyring to take home and keep, you can take on our timed pump challenge, fit a tap, and even learn about heat pump technology and basic Gas controls.
For the aspiring electricians, can you be the quickest team to complete the circuit and save your teacher from the 'electric chair' or will it be a shock for them?
How about building a solar powered electric car to set the fastest time down the track?
Or even challenge each other on our electric generating exercise machines to see how many apps you can power?

Computing

It's perfect for anyone passionate about computing, programming, website development, social media or cyber security.
Split into two sections, you'll learn through hands-on activities, firstly exploring a network topology, witnessing a live Distributed Denial of Service (DDos) attack before constructing one of your own.
The second half of the session will involve learning about software development, writing code like a professional software developer.

Animal Management

Our passion is for the natural world, join us in our Exotics Room, handling and feeding a range of animals from leopard geckos and bearded dragons to royal pythons.
That's not all. We have a range of large and small livestock, including sheep, pigs, goats, ponies and donkeys, as well as small mammals
Discover their welfare needs in captivity and how enrichment is key to keeping them healthy and happy
You'll also learn about the impact of human activity on the environment and ecology, covering how selective breeding is threatening the existence of well-loved species and breeds in the world today.

Digital Art & Graphic Design

We are surrounded by graphic design and typography daily, from billboards to websites, to posters and road signs; it's everywhere!
Using digital and mixed media, this workshop experience will be an exploration of urban design and typography.
Have a go using photoshop to layer type, taking inspiration from grungy ripped billboards to create a large mixed media piece of work incorporating collage, mono-printing and painting skills.

Motor & Electric Vehicle

Our 'pit stop challenge' is waiting. Dyno test run cars in our fast fit workshop before taking part in vehicle lift and team task on an HGV truck test your skill operating the Hydraulic crane.
What else? How about trying out airbrush painting & car graffiti in our Body and Paint workshop?
Overall, this experience is a valuable insight into working in the automotive industry, covering new and emerging electric vehicle technology, Basic hand skills, as well as vehicle technology and safety.

Why not try to beat the teacher at our 'Bolt Buster Challenge'? It's trickier than you think.
You'll also get to interact with our cutaway engines and learn the fundamentals of an internal combustion engine as you do.
During the experience, there'll be a chance to inspect a wide variety of marine mechanical components and learn how they work.
We've even got 'home made' R.O.V underwater vehicles to take a look at.

Beauty & Nail Care

Glow up your summer festival nails with this beauty experience.
We've got a range of practical activities lined up to help you learn a range of beauty therapy, make-up and nail techniques.
Here's some of the things we will cover:
- Paraffin wax treatment
- Learn a variety of hand / arm massage techniques
- Nail art with crystals, glitters, transfers, stamp, foils & stickers
- Application of water-based paints and glitters to achieve festival themed face art

Experience Days are a fun day filled with hands-on sessions that give you a sneak peek into college life. Youβll try out different activities, explore various courses and see what future career paths might look like for you. Plus, thereβs a mini festival at lunch with food, music and fun activities!
Where is it happening?
Depending on which Experience Day you choose, you will be exploring either our Cornwall College Camborne campus or our Duchy College Rosewarne campus.
How do I get there?
You will be picked up from your school in the morning, and brought back at the end of the day.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just bring yourself, your curiosity, and maybe a water bottle. Weβll provide all the materials you need for the activities.
What kind of activities will there be?
From science experiments to creative arts, and tech explorations, thereβs something for everyone. Youβll get to try your hand at activities related to different courses offered by the College.
Whatβs happening at lunchtime?
After a morning of exploration, take a break with a light lunch, some background music, and a chance to chat with fellow visitors. Itβs a relaxed way to recharge and connect with others.
