Mental Health Awareness Award Level 1 (The Skills Network Platform) (Employer Delivery)

Mental Health Awareness Award Level 1 The qualification develops learners' knowledge and understanding of mental health issues. It develops and recognises the learner’s personal knowledge and skills to encourage a healthy lifestyle and prepare them for further learning or training.

What you will learn

Be aware of what is meant by mental health

• Define the terms ‘mental health’ and ‘mental illhealth’
• Identify possible causes of mental health problems
• Identify examples of mental health problems
• List common sources of information on mental health issues
• Be aware of some of the social and personal effects of mental ill health
• State the percentage of people in the UK that might experience mental health problems
• Identify the effects that experiencing a mental health problem might have on an individual
• Outline how mental health is reported in the media
• Identify the negative effects media reporting can have on an individual
• Identify the negative effects media reporting can have on society
• Outline how stereotyping can affect people with mental health problems
• Be aware of some of the responses to mental health issues
• Identify the rights of people experiencing mental illhealth
• Identify possible responses that can be made to support an individual with mental health problems
• Outline factors which can have an impact on whether a response will work
• Identify where to refer people for further help or guidance about mental health issues
• Identify ways to promote positive mental health
• Be aware of cultural diversity in relation to mental health issues
• Identify possible causes of mental distress in different cultural groups
• Give examples of barriers that may exist for different cultural groups accessing services
• Outline ways of overcoming barriers to accessing services
• Outline factors that can help promote positive mental health amongst different cultural group

Entry requirements

Learners will need to have the right to study in the UK and been a resident for a minimum of 3 years.

Assessment

The qualification is assessed by internally set and marked assessments subject to external quality assurance. Where indicated in the unit specifications, assessment must meet the requirements of the identified assessment strategy/principles. Materials for internal assessment must be submitted to TQUK for approval prior to use and must be mapped to the relevant unit, learning outcome and assessment criteria. All learning outcomes must be met to achieve a Pass – there is no grading.
