Healthy Pickles and Preserves

Pickles and Preserves Courses This introductory workshop is aimed at complete beginners. By the end of the workshop you will be able to confidently prepare a range of healthy pickles and preserves.

This course is free, however, there is a fee of £20 to cover ingredients and teaching materials.

What you will learn

Kicking off with a demonstration taking you through the basics, you will then have the opportunity to put your learning in to practice.

During the class, you will be guided through a variety of methods and recipes which will change with the seasons. You will learn how to pickle, preserve, and ferment to create delicious and nutritious tastes to enjoy all year round!

Plus, you'll learn about the best go-to pairings to complement your preserves and pickles. Our chef will explain the reasons behind the methods used and assist you in getting hands-on with practical preserving processes and techniques.

Throughout the session we will share a wealth of hints and tips on how to get the best out of seasonal produce. You’ll learn to create a range of pickles, preserves and ferments such as: pickled onions, kimchi and fermented carrots.

This course will leave you motivated to recreate and experiment at home with your family members, helping to build relationships and improve their cooking skills while gaining knowledge of food and nutrition.

Assessment

Learners will be assessed through observation and oral questioning.

Progression

If you enjoy the experience and want to study further, then the progression route would be to enrol on our Level 2 Professional Cookery course.
