Course information

English GCSE Courses This is a one-year intensive course leading to a GCSE English language qualification.

It is designed to develop the skills you need to read, understand and analyse a wide range of different texts covering the 19th, 20th and 21st century time periods as well as to write clearly, coherently and accurately using a range of vocabulary and sentence structures.

This course is free of charge if you have not previously achieved a grade 4 - 9 (or A* to C) in English.

You will need to be willing to work independently for three hours per week in addition to attending all the timetabled lessons.

The course prepares you for two final exams:

Paper 1, Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing, looks at how writers use narrative and descriptive techniques to engage the interest of readers.

Paper 2, Writers' Viewpoints and Perspectives, looks at how different writers present a similar topic over time.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however you will complete an Initial and Diagnostic assessment to ensure you are working at the most appropriate level for your current needs.

The course is assessed via two formal written examinations.
