Electrical Installation Diploma

Plumbing Courses Would you like a career in a well-paid, rewarding, exciting and ever changing environment? Are you a problem solver? A team player? Do you have an appetite for new knowledge and a concern for the environment? Do you know your Tesla’s from your Musk’s? And finally, do you relish a challenge? If this has ‘sparked’ your interest then read on!

The Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical installation is intended as a Technical Level qualification. The course

is specifically designed for those who have completed the Level 2 Intermediate Diploma in Electrical and builds on the skills and knowledge attained. The qualification may also be suitable for other learners, including adults, who are interested in electrical installation and/or are considering a career change.

Using up-to-date knowledge and skills, the electrical industry is fast-paced and challenging. The opportunities are boundless, as new technologies and innovations are driving the economic growth in the 21st century. As a fully qualified electrician you could find yourself almost anywhere in the world as the demand for energy efficient power continues to rise.

The course entails both theory and practical sessions and caters for all learning styles. Your tutors come from diverse electrical engineering backgrounds ensuring that a mixture of current practice and experience are used throughout the delivery of the topics being covered.

Lively discussion, good humoured competition and collaborative activities ensure a wholesome learning environment, where everyone is encouraged and can reach their full potential.

A range of interactive, web based resources is also available to support and complement the course content. These resources can also provide a measure of stretch and challenge in addition to providing individual feedback.

There will be many ‘light bulb’ moments and much more besides and you will gain a real sense of achievement when that apprenticeship opportunity arrives.

What you will learn

Learners will practice and be assessed in a safe, supportive environment, covering important topics such as 3 phase lighting and motor installation. Inspection, testing and fault diagnosis are an essential part of the course.

In addition, Environmental technologies, the current wiring regulations, BS7671, all underpinned by further electrical science and principles make this a very demanding program of study.

Current topics including the changing electrical generation landscape and new innovations in electric cars and battery storage are also covered. There will be opportunities for site visits to factories and facilities that are of a particular interest to the electrical industry.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 16 years of age and have successfully completed the Level 2 Intermediate

Diploma in Electrical Installation. They must also demonstrate that they have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. This may be confirmed following an interview.

In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes, and the assessments. Most learners will be expected to have achieved a grade 5 in both English Language and Mathematics.

Work experience

As part of your course you will be required to carry out Work Experience and/or an Industry Placement.

Assessment

Assessment includes externally set and marked examinations, Centre marked assignments/practical tests and a final cross-unit synoptic assessment.

There are a number of on-line multiple choice style unit exams, written assignments and a range of practical tasks to complete. Additionally there will be ongoing formative assessments throughout the course to ensure progress and to provide feedback opportunities and support if required.

Each unit will be assessed on completion of delivery and revision and will usually begin at the start of the second term and continue until the course ends.

Progression

The EAL Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation will not automatically qualify learners to work as electricians. However, it does offer a stepping stone into employment by providing learners with the opportunity to progress onto an electrotechnical apprenticeship. Local employers are very keen to provide opportunities to those learners who have a proven desire and aptitude to succeed in the electrical industry in Cornwall, where currently there is a skills shortage in this vital sector.

This is your opportunity to stake your claim in this vibrant industry at this pivotal time. Take your chance before someone takes your place!
