Creative Media Technician – T Level Technical Qualification in Creative & Design

The T Level in Creative Media Technician is a two year Level 3 qualification for those who want a carer within the exciting media, broadcast and production industry. The Media sector is strong internationally, nationally, and locally and with media content being consumed by nearly everyone on the planet the need for people to create, capture, and edit that content is constantly rising

The Media, Broadcast, and Production T Level provides the necessary skills and knowledge for individuals to pursue a career in the creative media industry. Students will be equipped with up-to-date techniques and abilities to effectively plan, prepare, capture, finalize, and publish media content. These competencies will enable students to progress into a wide range of media organisations, from small companies to large-scale film productions.

What you will learn

Students will acquire comprehensive knowledge about various aspects pertaining to the industry, encompassing the creative economy, the role of individuals in the creative industries, cultural context and terminology, audience and consumer demands, legal and regulatory obligations, professional ethics and behaviour in the workplace, equality, diversity, and inclusion criteria, research abilities, project management and administration techniques, and the significance of ongoing professional growth.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs 9-4* including maths and English or Relevant Level 2 technical qualification / Transition Programme*

Assessment

Assessments are conducted using a wide variety of methods enabling you to showcase your practical skills and understanding of the subject area. You will be assessed through written and practical examinations, employer projects, group work, presentations and analysis. This could involve technology projects, individual research, group work, project work and performance support. On successful completion of the course, you will receive a qualification equivalent to three A Levels.

The practical assessments have been developed in accordance with the needs of employers and our local industry in order to provide the best opportunity for progression.

As part of this programme you will also gain extensive occupational experience on an external industry placement in conjunction with a local employer. An industry placement is a core component of the T Level offering as it represents 20% of the overall programme. Achievement of the industry placement and working with an appropriate employer for the requisite hours is essential for achievement and awarding of the final qualification.

During the industry placement, you need to complete between 315 and 420 hours across the two years, which will fit around your in-class studies.

Progression

This course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in media broadcast and production. Students can progress into roles such as TV or film production technician, video editor, broadcast engineer, camera operator, lighting technician, live sound engineer, audio visual technician and many more. Students can also use this T Level to do a related higher-level apprenticeship or degree course.
