FdA Photography

Our exciting and vibrant new FdA Photography programme, is built upon the years of existing good practice to be found in the Arts and Media Department at Cornwall College Camborne. Photography is a popular, challenging and competitive subject. As such our new programme has been designed to ensure our graduates are tenacious, flexible and excited by the new opportunities that are available in photography and are fully aware of the niches that can be carved within the creative industries. To ensure a dynamic student experience, as a FdA Photography student you will be located within the existing BA (Hons)/ FdA Art & Design Practice studio spaces, sharing a range of facilities including an HE Common Room. You will also enjoy your own subject specific teaching areas, including a photography studio and dark room facilities. Smaller teaching groups are a positive element of the programme, ensuring you receive the expert attention that you need to become a successful photographer. However, the programme cohorts will be large enough for you to collaborate with fellow students and undertake group projects. Opportunities will exist to support you if your interest lies in photo-journalism or contemporary fashion, or if you wish to develop specialisms in the use of either digital or conventional photographic technology. Photography specific visits and trips will take part throughout the programme as part of the curriculum. Location photography shoots in Cornwall, in both countryside and coastal regions, will also form part of the programme.

Photography – Creative – Commercial

If you are interested in a career in photography and have your sights set on a future in the creative industries then look no further as this is the course for you. The course is constructed with practical projects and hands on learning – you’ll be spending a lot of taking photographs in and out of college. This course is delivered at both Cornwall College Camborne and Cornwall College St Austell. You will work on projects that are written to allow you to develop skills in both digital and analogue processes across a range of photographic applications. By the end of the course you will have a diverse portfolio to take to employers, universities or to show clients. At the end of each year of study you will be given the chance to choose your own specialism and create a completely individual product based on the strengths and skills you have developed. What will you create? The choice is yours! You will go on trips to various locations and visit photographer’s studios. These are a great opportunity to meet and question current industry professionals. You will also have the opportunity to go on the annual London trip that includes accommodation at a 3* hotel, seeing the work of professional photographers exhibited at National Portrait Gallery and Photographers Gallery, Visiting V&A museum being in a live TV studio audience, meeting and working with professional photographers, 3D IMAX screening, a West End show, a ride on the London Eye, Street Photography in the capital and so much more. Video Editing for Beginners

Adobe Premiere Pro is fast becoming the industry standard software for video editing both in businesses and in post-production houses due to its flexibility, cross platform compatibility, and intuitive design. This course will enable beginners to become proficient in its use. The beginners course will cover the video editing process from start to finish using Adobe Premiere Pro. Through instructor led demonstrations and exercises you will learn how to edit a short video using a variety of media, adding video effects and titles and finally exporting your finished video. All media will be provided, although you are also welcome to bring your own videos, stills, etc. You may choose to use this workshop to edit footage for a client or to create your own video that documents family moments or a holiday. This course will run from 18.00 - 20.00.

Introduction to Ceramics & Print Making Techniques

This session is intended for beginners with an interest in ceramics and printmaking processes or further creative education study. The morning ceramics session will start with clay preparation leading to exploring different ways texture and surfaces decoration can be worked into clay. These textures will be transferred onto clay slabs. Students will be taught the technique of slab building to build their chosen style of pot. Whether it’s a mug, a jug, a lidded container or vase they chose to make, through this hands on ceramics workshop, they’ll start to find out how far their creativity and ideas can take them. In the afternoon, we will experiment with a number of monotype and monoprint processes exploring different, drawing and markmaking techniques using printmaking inks. Students will produce a large body of experimental pieces, which we hope will fire their creativity and generate ideas. This course will run from 9.30am until 4.30pm including a 30 minute ‘Wash up’ at the end of the session

Introduction to Photography & Graphics

This session is intended for beginners with an interest in Photography & Graphic Design. During the morning you will develop appropriate and practical creative photographic skill sets, and a sound understanding of the principles of photography and learn how to apply those principles more widely. The graphics session will start with an introduction to product branding, with particular reference to the marketing of mineral water. Students will then be asked to re-design the label of a supermarket bottle of ‘Value’ mineral water, in order to render the brand upmarket and premium. The students will be provided with all of the necessary materials in order to realise the task, including, pens, paper and bottles of mineral water. This course will run from 9.30pm until 4.30pm.

Drawing For Beginners (Evening)

This short course aims to teach you two things – how to train your eye to see the shapes of the things you’re looking at from your particular viewpoint and then how to get those shapes down on paper to make a convincing drawing. Silver Bangle & Charm Beginners Jewellery Workshop
