HND Games Design For Industry

This skills-based programme meets the requirements of one of the fastest growing, dynamic and entrepreneurial sectors in the creative industries. Providing practical specialist knowledge to pursue a career in the game industry in paths such as an animation, level design, 3D modelling or concept art etc. Core artistic and technical skills will be developed to enable creation and building of games and content for a variety of platforms. You will gain an understanding of the broad areas of games development, ludology, VR, concept work, 3D modelling and animation, level creation, character design, motion capture, history, contextual and social issues, together with an overview of the more technical and creative aspects of the games design pipeline. Studies include formal lectures, practical workshops, trips to EGX Rezzed (London) and industry based assignments, exploring numerous aspects of digital gaming within a combined creative and technical framework; real-world tasks; creating real products through competitions, live client briefs and for the college’s own games design company; establishing a strong portfolio; web presence and showreel towards future employment. Games Design and Animation Diploma

UAL Games Design is a two year, coursework based, practically focused course where you learn the skills needed to move onto University or your first steps into the ever expanding UK games industry. We focus on the development of games and game art and assets, so you don’t need to be a coding master to succeed! From developing pixel art 2D levels to fully textured 3D environments and characters we help you bring your ideas to life through our student focused curriculum. We’ll teach you how to apply essential theories to your thinking and your game products, will support you develop your own games (both digital and physical) and take your aspirations and career aims and make them our number one goal. In the first year of the course you will even create a fully realised board game, use 3D printing techniques and a full production process to launch the product in a live premiere event – and all in just ten days! Making use of the most up to date games development and digital media software you will learn to create with Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Animate, After effects and more...3d modelling software such as Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya. Game engines like Construct 3 and Ue4 and learn to work with the latest gadgets like the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality System. This programme has been developed as a progression to honours to make it possible for foundation degree graduates (and others where appropriate), to progress to achieve an honours degree in the interdisciplinary art and design area. This final year is unique to the South West and provides an exciting and vibrant Level 6 qualification with a continued emphasis on you, the learner and the development of your professional identity within the creative industries. You will develop a focused innovative practice combining particular interdisciplinary art and design interests. In particular you will have the staff expertise and practical up to date facilities to enable you to explore, Print Making, Ceramics, Painting, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Mould Making & Fine Art Textiles. This is supported by an advanced skills and knowledge set reflecting your particular direction through the programme. You will be expected to develop an independent, autonomous practice, synthesise prior learning and present a public realisation of your work. The programme aims to facilitate within graduates an enthusiasm, curiosity and flexibility to equip you for a future in developing challenging art and design projects, whilst also operating across a range of arts careers and creative practices. The programme aims to be a unique blend of traditional, contemporary and innovative approaches to learning. The curriculum is enquiry driven to provide you with a centred active education. Beginners Guide To Digital Photography (Evening)

This course is aimed at beginners who will learn the basic use of a digital camera. With simple techniques to improve portraits, landscapes, travel photography, special occasions, and competition entries. You will learn what the controls on your camera are for, and how settings can be used to give effects that can enhance your images. This will include an understanding of exposure and what settings combine to give the right results; what types of image file and colour settings are the best for your camera; basic control of natural, artificial and flash lighting and basic use of photo software; tips for improving the composition of landscapes, portraits, nature and close-up (macro) images. Students are encouraged each week to try out what they have learnt and the photographs are viewed by the group the following week. Silver and Seaglass Jewellery - Day Workshop

This workshop is suitable for beginners as we will go through all the basic techniques in making our jewellery. A fun and enjoyable day making truely unique jewellery. Introduction to Ceramics & Print Making Techniques

This session is intended for those interested further creative education study with an interest in ceramics and printmaking processes . The morning we will experiment with a number of monoprint processes exploring different, drawing and markmaking techniques using printmaking inks. Students will produce a large body of experimental pieces, which we hope will fire their creativity and generate ideas. The afternoon ceramics session will start with clay preparation leading to exploring different ways texture and surfaces decoration can be worked into clay. These textures will be transferred onto clay slabs. Students will be taught the technique of slab building to build their chosen style of pot. Whether it’s a mug, a jug, a lidded container or vase they chose to make, through this hands on ceramics workshop, they’ll start to find out how far their creativity and ideas can take them. This course will run from 9.30am until 4.30pm including a 30 minute ‘Wash up’ at the end of the session

You will be make functional ware and sculptural pieces for example; pots, spoons, tiles and other objects, and ornaments, and how to mix and use glazes.
