Students Shine at College Awards
A prestigious awards ceremony took place at St Mellion resort, as The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), hosted its highly anticipated Shining Star awards, to honour and recognise outstanding student accomplishments.
The event, attended by students, their families, and employer representatives, proved to be a night filled with joy, inspiration, and a touch of celebrity glamour.
We were delighted to have a celebrity host, Jonathan Wilkes, with us for the evening. The entertainer, singer and presenter compered the awards ceremony, which added an extra layer of excitement to proceedings.
Jonathan Wilkes, who also runs the Wilkes Academy of Performing Arts, graced the occasion as a special celebrity guest, and handed the Shining Star awards to all the winners.
“I’m here to meet some incredible and inspiring young people who’ve worked so hard this year, not just the winners, but also all the nominees,” said Jonathan Wilkes, who was impressed by the dedication and perseverance displayed by all the students.
John Evans, CE and Principal of TCCG, named the Shining Star Awards as “my favourite night of the year”, he said:
“This is a real chance to celebrate all our fantastic student achievements.”
Throughout the evening, trophies were given out to students from the wide variety of curriculum areas from The Cornwall College Group campuses across Devon and Cornwall. These include Cornwall College sites in Camborne and St Austell, Duchy College Rosewarne and Stoke Climsland, Falmouth Marine School and Bicton College.
Neil Warnock, renowned football manager, took to the stage to present the sports awards, adding his expertise and well-wishes to the celebration.
The event was made possible through the support of several esteemed organisations and local companies, that showed their commitment to fostering student success.
These include headline sponsor First South West, awards supporter Electude, as well as category sponsors Ascentis, BAM, Dominos, Digital Skills Partnership, Cornwall Apprenticeships, Fox Construction Solutions, Lantra Awards, Mole Valley Farmers, NCFE, the Keay Theatre, St Austell Brewery and Next Steps South West.
Dancer from the Creative & Digital Academy, in partnership with Studio 4, added an extra sparkle to the event, with their jazzy performance from Chicago: teen edition.
The recognition and celebration of their achievements serve as a reminder of the transformative power of further education and the countless opportunities that await them in their future endeavours.
