Vocational Studies Level 1 Certificate
This course is ideal if you are unsure of the vocational pathway you wish to pursue as a career. You will experience a range of vocational options to help you make that choice. Are you ready to try a range of options?
The Foundation Learning Vocational pathway aims to develop the skills and behaviours to prepare you for future studies or work. You will have the opportunity to explore a range of vocational options, some utilising cross-college departments to gain a true insight to the subject area.
Our vision is to support you to be INDEPENDENT, CONFIDENT AND RESILIENT so that you are well-prepared to engage with the wider community. The Vocational Studies course will help you feel confident to choose your next steps, whether in or out of College.
This Pathway is offered at different campuses. The vocational options on offer are specific to the campus you choose to study at, and use specialists to deliver where required.
What you will learn
During the course you will study vocational and life skills around the areas of work that you have chosen to study. You will also build your teamwork skills, self-confidence and develop your English and maths.
Vocational areas at Camborne range from Media to Horticulture, Motor Vehicles to Hairdressing, Sport to Creative Arts, Catering to Health & Social Care, plus more.

The course will also allow you to continue the development of English and maths (either GCSE or Functional Skills), explore employability skills and have the opportunity to access some work placement hours related to your career aspirations.
Entry requirements
Learners will need to be working at a minimum of Entry level 3 for English and maths.
Work experience
Work experience will be available in a few formats. Group community projects, internal placements within the college and external placements with various local employers.
Assessment
The course follows the Pearson BTEC Introductory to Vocational Studies Level 1 qualification at the Award Level, which is a nationally recognised qualification.
As well as continuing to study core subjects you will also develop your skills in English and maths (either GCSE or Functional Skills)
Progression
You could progress to further study with us on either our Vocational Studies Stage 2 or our Work-related Studies programmes. You will also have the opportunity to progress to a specialist programme within one of our other curriculum areas, an apprenticeship, voluntary or paid work.
