Britain has an ageing population - the number of people aged over 64 is expected to grow to 15 million by 2040. This means more people will live with serious chronic illnesses and need end of life care. Our level 2 Certificate in Principles of End of Life Care will give you the knowledge you need to perform your role as a care worker for people approaching the end of their lives. You will learn how to support and manage pain and discomfort, as well as gaining insight into the impact of dementia on end of life care. You'll also develop the compassionate skills needed for supporting family and friends with the loss and grief process.

My time at Cornwall College has quite literally changed my life. Completing the access course has allowed me to progress onto university and fulfill my dream of becoming a midwife.

I chose Cornwall College as the hours for the access course suited my family commitments. After attending an open day, I was also impressed with the support available to students.

The support I have received from my lecturers, my tutor and fellow students has been amazing. After being out of education for 15 years the access course has given me the skills and confidence to progress onto university. The learning curve over the last 9 months has been incredible and I will be forever grateful to those that supported me.

If you want to make a positive difference to someone’s life by contributing to their health, happiness and wellbeing then a career in Health and Social Care is the choice for you. The Level 2 course will allow you to gain an applied knowledge of the health and social care sector and will develop your knowledge and understanding of key areas relating to current practice. You will need good communication skills and a passion to support individuals to live a more independent and fulfilling life. The course aims to help you enhance the skills you already possess and develop others such as the ability to treat people with dignity, empathy and excellent time management. Studying the course will introduce you to some of the practices being used within health and social care settings such as hospitals, care homes and children’s centres. This will include person-centred care, infection prevention and communication strategies and could be developed in the classroom, equipped clinical room or work placement. As well as providing an excellent knowledge base in health and social care, this qualification is ideal for students who want to achieve a nationally recognised qualification and aspire to achieve a career working in the health and social care sector.
