Welcome to level 2 electrical installation.

Following on from level 1 or starting directly at level 2, this 2 ½ day a week course offers a wide range of technologies found today within the electrical industry, from basic domestic installations to industrial, commercial, renewable energies, smart homes, car charging to mention but a few. Our extensive and high class training facility offers the learner every advantage in completing this course. Our lecturers are all time served and experienced personnel from diverse areas within the industry and are energised and driven to help you make your dream come true.

The 1st thing you will notice is our large well stocked practical bays, where, as students you will get lots of hours of practical experience, from simple lighting circuits to more complex simulated house installs. We supplement this with extensive classroom learning, thereby equipping you with all the basic knowledge and practical experience to set your career off on a solid foundation from which you can build a bright future within the electrical industry.

  What You Will Learn

This one-year course will explain the systems and practices found in the electrical industry. From the rules that govern us to the practical applications. From how to apply the correct theory to practical situations to fault finding. The principles of electrical installation will be broken down and what seems a mine field will become a light bulb moment and you will see it all clearly.

  Entry Requirements

Minimum Grade 5 GCSE in Maths and English Language. Learners must be 16 years of age, demonstrate a keen willingness to learn and thus the potential to achieve this qualification.

  Work Experience

Work experience and placements offer an exciting opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge, allow you to understand first hand, the sector in which you would like to work.

Our Skills to Business team can support you to find suitable placements.

  Assessment

You will be assessed through online examinations, practical assignments and a theory assignment.

  Progression

Once you’ve completed the Level 2 course, you’ll have a real understanding of Electrical Installation its principles and practical applications and be ready to move on to the more advanced Level 3 and/or apprenticeship courses so if earning whilst learning appeals to you this is a great 1st step to gaining that apprenticeship.

If you are a practical person, who enjoys a challenge, problem solving and making a real difference in people’s lives, then a career as a gas engineer could well be the path for you. You will spend time learning gas theory here with us at Cornwall College covering all aspects from natural gas combustion to gas appliance installation. We build a good understanding of the science and meaning behind gas appliances and how they work and test our understanding by getting hands on in the work shop and of course, you’ll be working with qualified engineers, meeting the required criteria, in the workplace. To undertake this course no prior knowledge of plumbing or gas is required however it would be an advantage if you have some experience. All subjects will be covered whilst attending the course, however some homework and additional study will be required in your own time. We have built you a strong online moodle page full of information, power points, handouts, work sheets and mock papers to help you revise at your own pace.. Moodle is a great place to pick up required resources on the days that you are not attending college. With determination and a keen spirit, the hard work will pay off in only 2 years when you will achieve a City & Guilds level 3 Diploma in Gas Engineering.

The first thing you’ll notice about this course is that it’s about practical learning – you’ll be spending a lot of time in our workshop, learning by doing as you work on a range of materials and tools. Which will be supported by theory lessons to underpin your knowledge. A Level 2 apprenticeship course, this is all about advancing your knowledge in the bricklaying industry and developing your essential skills. You’ll be learning from experienced and professional bricklayers, who are there to give you the very best start to your career. We do everything in our workshop: from brick to block work, line work, piers, corners, one brick thick walls, cavity walls, arches and much more. We work very closely with employers to make sure you will have the right skills and knowledge to support local needs and keep you working! STARTING SOON – DON’T MISS OUT! Enhance Your Trade Skills on Our Practical 5 Week Courses Starting soon Cornwall College will be hosting another series of Saturday Skills Workshops. Perfect for anyone interested in either improving their DIY skills, or for existing trades people who are looking to enhance their careers. Courses available include; plumbing, furniture making, plastering, brick and blockwork and bench joinery. On successful completion each learner will receive a college certificate. Designed to meet the needs of both enthusiast and professional, the Saturday Skills Workshops will give you all the necessary knowledge and hands-on experience you need to gain useful new skills. Brick & Blockwork: Introduction to basic tools and their uses, how to mix mortar correctly, fundamentals of blocklaying gauge, level, plumb and range. How to set out and spot board and stack blocks ready for use, how to spread and roll out mortar, how to build corners, correct measurements, how to build a cavity wall to building designs, how to build a block pillar and use various lintels.
