PALL wins “Apprenticeship Team of The Year”

Apprentices from Pall Corporation have been announced as this year’s winners for The Cornwall College Group’s (TCCG) Apprenticeship Games, sponsored by Cornwall Opportunities.

Now in its seventh year and coinciding with the National Apprenticeship Week, the Games bring together apprentice teams from various businesses for competitive events, testing their mental, physical and creative skills.

On Wednesday, 7th of February, Cornwall College Camborne opened its doors to welcome 16 apprenticeship teams to compete for the “Apprenticeship Team of The Year” trophy.

After a gruelling day of competition, PALL emerged victorious as the first-place gold medallists, closely followed by Wales and West scooping silver award, with King’s Service Centre hot on their tail, securing a third-place bronze award.

Commenting on the success of the day, Head of Apprenticeships at TCCG, Teresa Copping, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have hosted another successful year of Apprenticeship Games and celebrate the valuable partnerships we have with regional employers.”

She added: “The event highlighted the incredible talent and professionalism of our apprentices, and recognises the significant contribution they make to their respective industries. The Games also provide a platform for apprentices to showcase their skills and network with other apprentices from different industries.”

Employment and Apprenticeship Officer at Cornwall Opportunities, Cathie Kessel, expresses her joy in supporting, acknowledging and celebrating local apprentices during the awards ceremony.

Apprentice Trainer at PALL, Shaun Carter, was thrilled their group won this year’s competition: “Apprenticeships are a vital part of our business and it’s fantastic to see so many apprentices from around Cornwall take part in Apprenticeship Games, working together and competing. On the day it was great to see the team pull together, displaying great communication skills and winning the teamwork award for the day, as well as being crowned overall winners.”

The Apprenticeship Games tested skills in eight challenges; from making pancakes, constructing wooden bridges and hairdressing, to competing in Esports, undertaking police investigations and testing their knowledge in a quiz round.

King’s Service Centre Level 3 Business Administrator, Paige Trestrail, said the Games served as a “great opportunity to take on a few hobbies and learn more about each course area.”

Another student, employed by South West Water, expressed their delight for the Games and particularly enjoyed the military challenges, as they allowed them to “work best as a team and really enjoyed ourselves.”

Team Cornwall Council echoed the enjoyment and positively reflected on the “great staff members, great venue and good choice of activities.”

Congratulations to all the participants from the following businesses who have taken part in this year’s games, The Cornwall College Group is looking forward to what next year will bring:
