Let the Apprenticeship Games begin!
The Apprenticeship Games, a highly coveted competition organised by The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) will return this February, in a quest to find the South West’s top apprentices.
Now in its sixth consecutive year, the nationally recognised contest will see teams from the region’s leading businesses battle it out at Cornwall College St Austell on February 9th during National Apprenticeship Week.
The businesses taking part this year include BD, Wales & West Utilities, Eden Project, A&P Falmouth, Cormac Solutions, PALL Aerospace, Pendennis Shipyard, RCH NHS Trust, Blue Flame, Persimmon Homes, Ocean Housing Group, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, King’s Service Centre, Imerys and Cornwall Council.
Mixing apprentices with their employers, each team will compete in a series of exciting, interactive challenges to test their technical and networking abilities. The overall winners will be crowned ‘apprentice team of the year’ and scoop the Games’ specially designed torch trophy.
Lorna Martin, TCCG’s Head of Apprenticeships, described the competition as “one of the highlights of our year.”
Lorna continued: “The competition is about different businesses and apprentices, representing a wealth of vital sectors for the region’s economy, coming together to celebrate the thing they all have in common – an understanding of the value of apprenticeships.”
“Apprenticeships are a great way for people of all ages to earn while they learn, with opportunities to progress to a degree-level qualification.
“At TCCG, we see so many apprentices develop into outstanding employees, and this event is a great way for employers and apprentices to showcase the skills they’ve developed along their journey.”
As well as the gold, silver and bronze awards up for grabs, the challenges are designed to put the team’s leadership, teamwork and communication skills to the test, with judges awarding those who have best demonstrated these skills on the day.
“We are delighted to support the 2023 Apprenticeships Games,” said Cathie Kessel, Employment and Apprenticeship Officer at Cornwall Apprenticeships, who are the main sponsors for this year’s event.
“Recognising and celebrating the many benefits apprenticeships and apprentices of all ages bring to employers across the county and beyond. Bring on the Games!” Cathie continued.
Additional sponsors of the Apprenticeship Games 2023 include Persimmon Homes, Concorde Group and CCB Training.
