Provider Access Statement
This statement sets out the College’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at the college for the purpose of giving them information about the providers’ training or education offer. This complies with the College’s legal obligation to provide all college students with guidance materials and a wide range of up-to-date reference materials relating to careers education and career opportunities as per section 45 of the Education Act 1997 and as outlined in the Department for Education Guidance: Careers Guidance and Access for Education and Training Providers.
Rationale
High quality careers education and guidance in school or college is critical to young people’s futures. It helps to prepare them for the workplace by providing a clear understanding of the world of work including the routes to jobs and careers that they might find engaging and rewarding. It supports them to acquire the self-development and career management skills they need to achieve positive employment destinations. This helps students to choose their pathways, improve their life opportunities and contribute to a productive and successful economy.
It is important that all young people have a full understanding of all the options available to them post-16 and post-18.
Commitment
The Cornwall College Group is fully aware of the responsibility to set students on the path that will secure the best outcome which will enable them to progress in education and work and give employers the highly skilled people they need.
The Cornwall College Group is committed to ensuring there is an opportunity for students to have access to a range of education and training providers for the purpose of informing them about future education opportunities. That means acting impartially, in line with the statutory duty, and not showing bias towards any route, be that academic or technical.
The Cornwall College Group endeavours to ensure that all students are aware of all routes to further and higher skills and education and are able to access information on academic, technical and apprenticeships opportunities to understand the full range of education and training options.
We will also provide access to other providers to understand the technical education and apprenticeship offer within The Cornwall College Group.
Student Entitlement for all students enrolled on a course at The Cornwall College Group
This is fully outlined in our Careers Policy and Careers Programme. However, all 16 – 18 students on full time programmes of study are entitled to:
- To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available.
- To have access to local providers and employers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through careers events, talks and visits.
- To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses as well as employment.
- We will provide this as part of our Careers Programme and will include access to information about apprenticeships and higher education and skills through external providers and organisations invited to the college to outline opportunities for students.
Whilst this outlines the legal entitlement regarding 16-18 students, The Cornwall College Group is committed to all students in providing equal parity and the best possible careers advice and support at all stages of their education journey with us.
