Shadow Minister visits College during National Careers Week
The Shadow Minister for Skills and Further Education (FE) recently paid a visit to Cornwall College Camborne, part of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), in celebration of National Careers Week.
Seema Malhotra MP toured the impressive £12 million-pound campus redevelopment, speaking to students and staff about their courses and the education sector.
Accompanied by John Evans, principal and chief executive of TCCG, Luke Bazeley, head of campus, and Perran Moon, local Labour Party parliamentary candidate, Seema participated in hands-on activities, like bricklaying and virtual reality welding.
Commenting on the visit, the Shadow Minister said: “It’s been really exciting to see the range of courses that are on offer and to see opportunities in hair and beauty, construction, engineering, electric vehicles, the creative and digital sector and much more.”
Seema continued: “It’s really important that we see the investment going into our colleges, but also that we see the confidence that the courses being taught are the right courses for the future.”
For John Evans, the visit served as a “fantastic opportunity to showcase the exceptional facilities and the incredible talent in Cornwall.”
“The recent visit from Shadow Minister, Seema Malhotra, highlighted the Group’s commitment to innovation, industry relevance and strong employer links,” John continued.
Head of Campus, Luke Bazeley, said: “It is brilliant our campus has been recognised nationally; having welcomed the Prime Minister in February, followed by the recent visit from the Shadow Minister for Skills and Further Education. We hope that these visits mark positive steps toward addressing the prevalent issues within the education sector and fostering meaningful changes for our learners.”
