Studio Assistant, Sparrows Nest Ceramics

Description of types of tasks to be carried out:

A variety of studio tasks – training will be given, including:

Packing orders from website, Etsy and Not on the High street.

Helping with the daily studio needs such as stock taking, wiping down, and keeping the studio clean and safe, checking outstanding orders from online and wholesale. Helping with the ceramic process (all our pottery is formed by hand not wheel thrown, so we use techniques such as slab building, coiling, use of moulds, pinch pots). Examples for opportunity are rolling clay, making up glaze, building pottery, sanding, and glazing.

Marketing – product and lifestyle photography and video.

Building on brand and social media presence.

Support with the roll out and promotion of our new pottery at home box.

You may be required to work outside for some of the process.

Description of key skills & personal competencies required:

We are a husband and wife team, we work from our home studio in Redruth, we offer an opportunity for the right students to work with us in our calm and creative home studio. You must be able to be okay with our two dogs being in the studio with us (and the occasional hen!).

We are looking for students that are also calm, creative, who are able to follow instructions, concentrate and be confident to ask advice from us.

That are committed to learning with us and us from them.

Social Media knowledge would be a bonus, in particular we are hoping to build on our brand, instagram community and move into developing video content on media platforms such as instagram, YouTube and TikTok, we plan to link this with the roll out of the pottery at home boxes. So styling, photography and video skills that suit our branding would be useful.

We will offer shadowing, training and if the student is competent they will be able to be overseen in the running of mini projects.

Attention to detail is vital in this workplace environment. Safety around toxic substances and use of PPE is required during key activities, training will be given.
