Apprenticeship event showcases engineering opportunities

The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) is urging aspiring engineering apprentices to explore the exciting opportunities available to them at an upcoming virtual event.

The Engineering Apprenticeship Academy Event, held on Wednesday 31st March between 6-7pm, will be a virtual showcase of TCCG’s Engineering Skills Centre at Sisna Park in Estover, Plymouth.

“This online event is a great way for future engineers to get insight into what we do,” explained Luke Bazeley, Head of Campus at Sisna Park.

“Our study programme, together with a guaranteed industry placement, will ensure our learners have the best chance to succeed in progressing to a career in engineering,” Luke continued.

Dubbed the ‘Engineering Apprenticeship Academy’, the BTEC Advanced Manufacturing qualification is a versatile foundation for school leavers and career changers alike, offering a wide range of skills in engineering before committing to one specialist area.

The course also benefits from strong links to industry and is endorsed by the Plymouth Manufacturers Group, with key employers such as MARS Wrigley, Becton Dickinson (BD) and Kawasaki.

“Post-covid, young people are finding it even more challenging to unlock career opportunities on their doorsteps. Our full-time course offers the golden ticket of a guaranteed 45- day placement with big-named companies in and around Plymouth”, said Luke.

“As the career college, we want to provide quality education and training whilst also meeting the demand for skills in the local area.”

Visitors to the online event will have the opportunity to interact with staff and formers students of the Engineering Skills Centre, tour the campus and find out more information about the innovative academy.

Luke will be joined on the virtual event by students Zack Clifton and Abbie Tucker, who will talk more about what life is like studying at the Engineering Skills Centre and working on an industry placement.

Zack, who secured an apprenticeship with global medical technology company BD said: “I enjoy the variety of practical and office work. You are not just making cups of tea, you get stuck in and learn from the start!”
