This two year course is the equivalent to A-levels and can offer you the chance to progress to university study, while gaining a broad knowledge of the agriculture sector in an applied and practical manner.

Ideal if:

You want to develop your technical knowledge and practical skills and gain a better understanding of the management of different agricultural enterprises, or as an alternative to A-levels and gain university entry.

You’ll need:

Five GCSEs at grade C or 5, including English, maths and science.

You’ll learn:

About crop production, animal production and machinery maintenance and operation delivered through a combination of lectures, resource based learning, practical sessions, visits and assignments. The second year of the course focuses more on enterprise and business management.

Expect:

To be in college three to four days a week and gain a wide variety of experience from practical work on the College farm and in association with our industry partners. Assessment includes both coursework and exams.

Employment in agriculture or a related industry with future prospects for management or progression to university study such as our FdSc Agriculture.

PROFILE

Robb Dunn Head of Land-based & Food Studies

Food and farming expert Rob Dunn has recently joined the leadership team for Duchy and Bicton College had has taken on the role of curriculum lead, overseeing education provision across the region and projects such as the new Future Farm scheme; the £10 million creation of a new skills centre, dairy unit and pioneering research centre at Duchy College Stoke Climsland. Rob has worked at a number of land-based colleges around the UK. Rob also presents a weekly farming show for a Cornish radio station and is a judge for the British Farming Awards.
