The art department at Cornwall College Camborne is running its annual Summer School from Monday 8th to Wednesday 24th July.
Every year the courses are offered up by tutors of the College as well as special industry guest tutors. The courses are available to everyone regardless of previous artistic ability.
This year, the faculty is keen to offer the courses to those visiting West Cornwall on holiday as well as the local community. As well as beginners, established artists will also attend some of the summer school because of the guest tutors teaching on them.
Marie-Claire Hamon is an artist, originally from Belgium, who studied for her degree in art in Falmouth and has guest-lectured at Cornwall College on many occasions. “I love teaching at Cornwall College, the facilities here are second-to-none for aspiring artists. Each individual student gets their own work space but it is still open plan enough to have a creative atmosphere and for them to share ideas.”
The summer school this year offers those involved a chance to study a range of artistic disciplines, including textiles, fashion, graphics, photography, painting and furniture. Each area is a small taster of courses that the College offers on a full-time and part-time study basis. After the short courses are complete this summer, participants will have the option to apply to study in their chosen area.
Lisa Mortensen, curriculum area manager for the faculty at Camborne, said: “The summer school is something we do every year and we are so lucky to get some guest tutors in to run some specialised courses for us. This gives the students the opportunity to learn so much from both the technique and the artist. Anyone is welcome to take part in these courses, some of which run for four days while others run for two.”
Anyone that is interested in booking a place onto the art summer school should contact Shana Price on 01209 616 369 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information please visit www.cornwall.ac.uk for a complete list of courses that will be running at Camborne throughout July.
