Local apprentices to represent England at Muay Thai in Italy

Two dedicated Muay Thai fighters from Cornwall are preparing to take on an international challenge as they gear up to represent England at the prestigious 2025 Muay Thai Festival in Verona, Italy.

Both Dan Liston and Matt Bramall, Engineering Apprentices at Cornwall College St Austell, have been passionate about Muay Thai for more than six years.

Through relentless training, personal determination and the support of their coaches and local community, they have now reached the extraordinary milestone of competing on the global stage.

“Growing up in Cornwall, we didn’t have access to all the resources that some fighters might, but that never stopped us from chasing our dreams,” said Dan. “Now, we have the honour of representing our country in one of the biggest Muay Thai events in the world.”

The Muay Thai Festival in Verona is a premier event, drawing elite fighters from across the globe.

While the opportunity is a tremendous achievement, it also presents significant financial challenges.

To cover essential expenses such as travel, accommodation, training and competition fees, the duo has been actively raising funds and seeking sponsorships.

Matt explained: “This isn’t just about competing, it’s about showcasing our hard work, representing Cornwall on an international level and inspiring others in our community to pursue their passion for the sport.”

Dan and Matt are calling on local businesses, sports enthusiasts and supporters to help them on their journey.
