Hospitality Experts Rank Local College Restaurant With Top Award

The future of Professional Cookery training in Cornwall is in safe hands following an unannounced inspection by the AA of facilities, service and standards.

The AA have once again awarded one of their top accolades to Cornwall College’s Professional Cookery and Hospitality provision, awarding a highly commended status to the college’s Trevenson restaurant.

This award which is recognised by the catering and hospitality industry for recognising excellence and consistency, reflects the college’s provision for offering leading catering training in the county which meets the needs of the industry.

Nick Batten, Team Lead for Professional Cookery and Hospitality, Cornwall College Camborne said, “Having been awarded this accolade is testament to all the hard work, passion and enthusiasm dedicated to the provision over many years and demonstrates just how good we are.

“We are only one of three colleges in the UK with our status of having three Centres of Excellence, a Highly Commended award and a college restaurant in the top 3 in the UK. Are students and staff are extremely proud of this achievement.  These awards recognise that we excel in lots of different areas, giving our students the very best start in their catering careers”.

The college has also enjoyed lots of student success, with former learners like Tom Brown who now owns and runs his own restaurant in London and Dorian Janmatt who worked for celebrity chef Raymond Blanc and who is now Head Chef at The St Mawes Hotel.

Level 3 Catering student Finley Start added, “I chose to train at Cornwall College because of the course reputation for offering amazing teaching, great facilities and career boosting opportunities. I’ve learned so much from expert tutors, I’ve really enjoyed the practical based approach and looking forward to a great career”.

Nick concluded, “Our ethos is to teach all our students the right mix of key skills and knowledge to help our chefs and restaurateurs of the future achieve their goals. Although the college is currently closed due to the government restrictions, we do offer on our two largest campuses in Cornwall, Professional Cookery and Hospitality, giving everyone access to the best catering provision in the Duchy.

“We are all really looking forward to being back up and running as soon as possible and welcoming both returning students, new students and our fabulous clients back to Trevenson”.
