Cornwall College Krakens & Serpents: The Rising Stars of Esports

Well, hold onto your controllers, because there’s some rising stars in the world of Esports that you need to know about – the Cornwall College Krakens and the Cornwall College Serpents!
In this blog, we’ll delve into both teams, their recent achievements, and the booming Esports programme at Cornwall College.
Who are we?
The Cornwall College Krakens and the Cornwall College Serpents are the Esports powerhouses at The Cornwall College Group. Recently, we took part in the British Esports Student Championships, where we played against over 150 other colleges and schools. Believe it or not, both our Overwatch2 and League of Legends teams made it to the playoffs, proving we’re pretty good at gaming! We have become a thriving part of the Esports programme at Cornwall College and can’t wait to welcome new members onboard.
What’s the latest?
We’ve recently organised our first ever Esports festival, which attracted dozens of enthusiastic gaming groups, all eager to showcase their skills and compete against one another. We’ve also teamed up with the College to give local companies a taste of Esports by hosting an event at Cornwall College St Austell, alongside its renowned Apprenticeship Games. Both of our teams are getting better and better at what we do, and we can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve next. The success of the Krakens and the Serpents reflects the rapid growth of the Esports programme at Cornwall College.
What do we learn?
It really is all fun and games! We learn, we grow, we acquire skills and lifelong friendships. All learners on the Esports diploma courses have the chance to produce, film and edit our very own promotional video for the course – yes, it really is like being in the real-world industry! Besides the fun and games, one of the highlights of this course is learning about the business and enterprise world under Dr Bryan Mills.
