Cornwall College backs local Cornish rugby

Rugby in the heartlands of Cornwall has received a major boost as Cornwall College Camborne looks to implement a new five-year rugby strategy.

Following the College’s appointment of the UK’s first further education college-based School Rugby Manager, in partnership with England RFU and Cornish Pirates, it’s appointing a new Head of Rugby.

The Head of Rugby will spearhead the Ofsted Outstanding College’s effort to support local rugby through player development, collaborative work with local clubs and leading the creation of the College’s new rugby academy for men and women.

“Our commitment is clear, ensuring our college fits our place-based ethos, a mirror of the communities it serves, and what better way to reflect this than developing rugby played with passion and pride in the heartlands of Cornwall,” said Deputy Principal Cornwall College Luke Bazeley.

“We are taking a holistic approach to help support Cornish rugby and enrich our student experience. It’s more than just elite performance, it’s the impact on local communities through inclusion, health and wellbeing and a sense of belonging.”

Cornwall College Camborne is working with local rugby clubs and schools to help ensure a bright future for rugby, building on its rich history.

This includes exploring new facilities and collaborations that will benefit both local clubs and schools.

As a reflection of this, the college is also delighted to be sponsoring Camborne Ladies RFC alongside numerous local rugby initiatives.

“We are incredibly excited to play our part in supporting and developing rugby in Cornwall and are looking forward to working with our partners and our communities to achieve great things together,” Luke added.
