Businesses urged to grasp growth opportunity at apprenticeship event

Businesses from across Cornwall are being invited to a special event as part of this year’s National Apprenticeship Week.

CCB Training part of The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), is hosting a free-to-attend networking event on Tuesday 8th February 3.30pm – 5.00pm at Trevenson Restaurant, Cornwall College Camborne campus.

Part of National Apprenticeship Week (7th to 13th February); the event highlights the impact apprenticeships can have on communities, local businesses, and regional economies and how they all benefit from apprenticeships.

“It’s such an inspiring week and this event will be a huge benefit for Cornish businesses” stated Lorna Martin, head of apprenticeships and business engagement at CCB Training.

“National apprenticeship week highlights not only the impact apprenticeships have on businesses, but it helps to build future careers and supports job creation.”

Attendees at the event will gain apprenticeship insights from guest speakers including, Kim Conchie from Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, Rob Kellow from RG Kellow. There will also be insights into CCB Training’s Apprenticeship Development fund, part of the Business Cluster Project, Skills for Cornwall.

The event includes face-to-face networking, a drinks reception and the unveiling of a new collaborative apprenticeship project that has been happening behind the scenes across TCCG campuses.

CCB’s Skills for Cornwall project, which is part of the Business Clusters scheme, part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), is supporting training needs in a range of sectors including agriculture, health, engineering, and construction. The project focuses on the development of skills, training programmes and qualifications in sectors identified as priorities by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership.

“This is a fantastic opportunity not to be missed,” is how Lorna described the project.

“There are two parts to the Skills for Cornwall project. Firstly, is £3,000 funding, through the Apprenticeship Development Fund.

“This funding is aimed at businesses that take on a new or existing staff member onto an apprenticeship in either motor vehicle (light and heavy), bricklaying, healthcare or property maintenance.

“In return we ask for feedback on ways to develop the apprenticeship.

“Secondly, we are looking for further insight from various sectors including agriculture, rural, health, technology, engineering and construction – through a series of free networking events with key industry speakers.

“This insight will enable us to develop new apprenticeships or foundation degrees to meet businesses future needs.”

The Skills for Cornwall project ends in June 2023 and Lorna urged companies to attend the event to find out more, as places are limited.
