College students are putting a new spin on the traditional office party this Christmas, with an interactive dining experience like no other.
The Christmas celebration event, entitled ‘Having a Ball’, is a quirky collaboration between students from Live Arts and Professional Cookery courses at Cornwall College St Austell.
Taking place at the Keay Theatre on Friday 13th December, the evening will include a three-course meal and a full programme of festive live entertainment to get you in the Christmas spirit.
Lydia Day from the College’s Creative Academy, explained the evening “certainly isn’t your run-of-the-mill Christmas party” and will be perfect for anyone looking for an “interesting and fun way to celebrate with your work colleagues or friends and family”.
“We are so excited about this new collaborative event featuring the acting, dance and professional cookery students from Cornwall College,” she continued. There will be a three-course festive feast, welcome drink on arrival, quality live performances and then a silent disco so you can shuffle till your hearts content. There’s even a bar!”
The evening’s entertainment will include exciting live performances from both the acting and dance students, followed by dancing in a silent disco till late.
“What the students bring to their performances is what will make ‘Having a Ball’ stand out,” Lydia said.
“The actors have been tasked with bringing the classic fairy-tale of Cinderella forward into the present day and into Christmas. The dancers are working with this brief to capture a dance style that encapsulates the glitz and glam of the ‘ball’ through the exploration of jazz, contemporary, Lindy Hop and Charleston.”
Under the guidance of expert chef and lecturer Steve Rudd, the three-course meal will be designed and prepared by professional cookery students from Cornwall College’s AA Rosette awarded restaurant Cloisters.
“The planning and delivery of this event is entirely student-led, providing an industry-real opportunity for those involved,” he explained.
“We’re passionate to deliver an innovative curriculum that enhances our students’ college experience, providing opportunities reflective of their potential progression following their time studying with us.”
