It has been a busy week of kayaking for students as they undertook a tour of the Cornish coastline.

Adventure Sports students from Duchy College have spent a week based in Sennen on a camping and activity week.

The week included a trip to Bosigran with the students climbing over the crag experiencing what was to offer. Another day was spent climbing near Hollywood wall at the Lizard and kayaking from Cadgwith on the Lizard. The swell was quite big and the students were able to put their skills in to practice to keep afloat

The third day was a calmer day, whilst sea kayaking around St Michaels Mount the students saw a pod of mermaid’s purses and a seal, before switching to some more surf kayaking in the bay. A trip to Lands End finished off the Cornish tour.

Level 2 Adventure Sport student, George Costello, said “the trip was amazing and we got to practice so many new skills in a different environment.”

“I really liked paddling in the big swell and it gave me a chance to really find out what I am capable of in a kayak.” he continued.

Outdoor Course Coordinator, Becks Ball, said “the expedition really gives the students the chance to practice their skills and develop not only as a practitioner but also as an outdoor leader. The students were a real credit to us this week and we were able to cram so much in.”

Team Lead for Sport and Outdoor Adventure, Darren Evans, added “the adventure sports programmes at Duchy are designed to give students a real taste of a variety of adventure sports. The students develop their skills and gain qualifications that will make them employable.”

“With so many of our students receiving multiple job offers from Outdoor Adventure companies, expeditions like this give the students the chance to put not only their practical skills but also their leadership skills into practice.” he continued.
