Lovers of ye olde Shakespeare are being called to the Keay Theatre for a ‘bloody’ take on Macbeth.
The Cornwall College St Austell acting students will be performing the well-known blood-spattered Shakespearian play Macbeth on Thursday 28th March at 7pm.
Former Penrice and Acting Student Arlene Ashley talked about the hard work that has gone into this performance;
“I think we are taking this to new heights and opening doors for a new look on Macbeth.”
“Finding an exciting never seen before Shakespeare experience has been a challenge. We have also taken on production roles which has allowed us to see how difficult it is to be a touring company” she continued.
Three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills the king, becomes the new king, and kills more people out of paranoia. Civil war erupts to overthrow Macbeth, resulting in more death.
Acting lecturer, Karen Burdon said what a fantastic project this had been;
As part of Launch, our theatre and performance training programme here at the College, our students have been at the very heart of the creative process
“They have taken ownership and have organised all of the production– the lights, the costumes the make-up, everything. They are experiencing what it’s like to be a professional touring company whilst gaining a fantastic qualification, not only that they’re doing a fantastic job.
“Shakespeare can be challenging but they are all, without exception, rising to that challenge and I’m incredibly proud of them” she added.
The students have created some trailers for the play which can be seen on their Facebook page: @MacbethCornwallCollege
