A specialist photography workshop has given Poltair School students a new frame of reference for college life.
Aspirational photography students from year 11 were given the opportunity to attend a hands-on food styling and content photography workshop with the teaching team from the Creative Academy at Cornwall College St Austell.
Team Lead for the Creative Academy Jess Leonard, described the workshop as a “rare chance” to get “practical insights from a team of industry professionals”.
Jess said: “We’re really excited to offer this type of high-quality workshop to secondary schools. Our Creative Academy is something uniquely fresh for students working towards their dream career in the arts and what we’re offering here perfectly aligns with that ethos.”
“The enthusiasm of the Poltair students was fantastic and they tackled the challenge head-on. They worked in a professional and considered way and the results they got were impressive. We hope that they enjoyed it!”
Working in the professional kitchens of the College’s award-winning Cloisters Restaurant, the students put their photographic knowledge and skills to the test in order to create exciting visual content that will be used for social media and digital marketing.
Year 11 Poltair student Milley Symons learnt a lot during the workshop and “really enjoyed taking photos of the students making dishes”.
Milley said: “I have found the day really interesting. The facilities in the kitchens here at Cornwall College St Austell are really good. It’s spacious which makes it perfect for moving around when we are doing a photo shoot like this.”
Milley’s classmate Jordan Breden, described the workshop as “really fun, a great experience.”
“I thought it would be more nerve wracking than it has been. It’s been a great opportunity for us to come here and practise our skills” continued Jordan.
