A group of Cornish students have braved the Cornish seas to develop their industry skills set.
Year 1 Adventure Sports students from Duchy College have been working towards their 2* paddlesport award along with their National Navigation awards, whilst the Year 2 students have been developing their 3* sea kayaking and 3* white water skills.
Level 3 Adventure Sport student, Henry Morris, from Bodmin, said it was great “having the opportunity to gain these extra qualifications whilst still completing my course”.
The students have used a range of venues including Summerleaze Beach in Bude, Exeter Canal, Looe and Dartmoor.
Team Lead for Sport and Outdoor Adventure, Darren Evans, said by “working closely with Outdoor Adventure employers we have developed a programme for the students that allows them to be industry ready.”
“Whilst developing their skills within their main qualification the students have a fantastic opportunity to gain additional National Governing Body qualifications and ensure that they are ready for employment,” Darren continued.
“These links to employers is key to our Adventure Sport qualifications and is why I am proud of our 100% employment rate.”
Level 3 Adventure Sport student, George Costello, from Looe, is in his second year of the Adventure Sports course and “was able to use my qualifications from last year to get a job as an Outdoor Instructor over the summer.”
“We are now working on higher level practical skills and awards which will definitely help me in the future.”
