A St Austell student has seen the opportunity to use her skills to create a business during lockdown.
Level 2 Nails Services student at Cornwall College St Austell, Chloe Martin, has created her own nails business, Naked Nails Salon.
Previously a student at Sir James Smith’s Community School, Chloe explained that she “recognised that lots of people wouldn’t be able to get into nail salons so I thought I could help by creating acrylic nails and sending them out to people.”
“I have managed to market the business so far by using social media and by spreading the word through family and friends,” she continued.
“It has been even more successful that I thought it would be, I’ve had a large amount of people interact with my business page, lots of customers are giving me orders and the reviews they have given me are great.”
Chloe said she would definitely carry her business forward after lockdown is over, and is even considering expansion.
“I am really enjoying my course at Cornwall College St Austell, it is definitely the right course for me,” she said.
“I plan to continue onto Level 3 next year as the support you get from the lecturers is fantastic. We have a new student social area, ‘The space’, and I love it! I use it on my half days, you can use it to play pool, watch TV, chill out and also do work. It’s quite often busy as it’s very popular.”
Nail Services Programme Manager at Cornwall College St Austell, Lisa Bland, said Chloe is a “fantastic student who is very devoted to her career choice”.
“Chloe is really well driven and puts 100% into every class,” Lisa explained.
“She always volunteers to work on clients and she was the first level 2 student to work on a client to apply a gel polish before her training. She has such a passion and drive for nails.
“I am incredibly proud of her idea and the way she has marketed the whole package for her new business venture. She really does have the ability to go a long way in the nail industry.”
