A Devon student has won a highly regarded international competition to design wedding flowers.
The competition, organised by Fusion Flowers magazine, involved designing a wedding bouquet incorporating hydrangeas, and had entrants from all over the world.
As the winning designer, Sophy Hadley, 23 from Shaldon, will be featured in the magazine alongside renowned master florists.
Sophy is currently studying a City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Floristry at Bicton College and was surprised with the news that she has won the prestigious competition.
“I entered the competition to get some feedback on my bouquet as it is was the first ever wedding bouquet I had designed for my friend,” she explained.
“I was hugely surprised to get so many positive comments, and was in shock when they emailed me to say I had been chosen to feature in the wedding magazine alongside master florists from all over the world.”
She continued: “I’m so excited to see my bouquet in the magazine, it has made me feel more confident to enter more competitions in the future!”
During her time at Bicton College, Sophy has been studying all manner of techniques as part of her course, which has given her a solid foundation in floral art and design, and positioned her among the top designers worldwide.
Sophy said she is thoroughly enjoying her time at the college and it has enhanced her enthusiasm and passion for working with flowers as well as pursuing a career in floristry.
“I would never have had the skills or confidence to take on the wedding in the first place and therefore enter the bridal hand-tied bouquet into the competition without the help and guidance of my tutors at Bicton,” she explained.
Team Lead for Floristry, Denise Cross, said she was thrilled for Sophy, adding “she is an excellent student and we are so pleased for her”.
“Sophy has worked very hard during her time at Bicton College which is reflected in her success in this competition, the feature means she is a name among world famous floral artists.” she continued.
Bicton College is delighted for Sophy and look forward to seeing her career progress in the future.
