A former Cornwall College student is taking to the sky after securing her dream job as a Cabin Crew Assistant for West Country based Flybe.  20 year old Jess Williams, who comes from Looe, studied Travel and Tourism at Cornwall College St Austell, part of The Cornwall College Group.

Jess said: “I’ve always had a keen interested in working in this role ever since I was little, I would often dream of flying off to exotic places, travelling the world and having a great time. It’s a role where you meet new people every day, you get to work as a team, you help people which I enjoy and you experience and learn new things almost every day.”

Jess worked at Cornwall Airport Newquay for 12 months before applying for the position at Flybe and received an assessment training day.  Two weeks later she had progressed to an interview and finally received an offer.

Jess continued: “You have to be committed and determined if you want to enter this industry, as the competition for jobs is tough.  The lecturers at Cornwall College helped me to get my job at Newquay airport; some of them are only part-time because they work in the aviation industry with some of the major airlines, so their knowledge was invaluable especially for me.”

Jess has now moved to Exeter, where Flybe are based and regularly fly’s to destinations around Europe, including Malaga and Faro.

Course Manager for Travel and Tourism, Suzette Sadler, said: “Jess has done exceptionally well and I would like to wish her all the best of luck for the future.  Getting into the airline industry is tough; they demand a very high standard, but our course is designed to give young people all the skills they need and Jess is a great example of how we are making learning work.”
