At this year’s Plymouth Seafood Festival to be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September at the Barbican and Sutton Harbour, catering students from Cornwall College Saltash will be supporting celebrity local chef Jaques Marchell.

Students from the Professional Cookery Level 2 course will be assisting a host of guest chefs, as they help with preparing, cleaning, cooking and demoing their culinary skills on the main stage.

Advanced Technical Diploma in Professional Cookery student, Ryan Moon, said: “It is an invaluable experience being able to help at the Seafood Festival. It will enhance the skills that I am learning at college and help prepare me for the workplace.”

Team Lead for Professional Catering Cornwall College Saltash, Chris Penk, said: “This will be our fifth time at the event and every year it seems to get bigger and better.  The Cornwall College Group is officially the best catering college in the South West with our Gold Accreditation and 3 Centre’s of Excellence including fish and shellfish.

“Plymouth is the first city in the world to be awarded the Fish2Fork Blue City status for its commitment to sourcing sustainable fish; it is great to be involved in this festival in the city.”

Chris concluded: “Anyone interested in a career in catering can come along and speak with us during the event.  Our catering courses this year are more popular than ever.  The best in the west status, together with our industry links.
