Beach Games Triumphs Through Foggy Conditions

This year the annual Cornwall College Beach Games were held at a rather foggy Fistral Beach.  The Newquay beach kindly hosted the event which saw student teams from various Cornwall College campuses take part in beach football and ‘nerf’ ball.

Sports Maker at Cornwall College St Austell, Luke Appleton said “The annual student beach games are a fantastic opportunity for all students to come together and take part in a variety of sports, with the primary focus on participation and not competition.

“At this time of year when students have a number of exams and hand-in deadlines, getting out of the classroom and taking part in sport can be a great way for them to de-stress and focus on having fun with their friends.”

Despite conditions being far from ideal with coastal fog and mist causing problems, the games proceeded. The students displayed a great range of transferable skills and the team work witnessed was fantastic.

Commercial Health and Wellbeing Manager, Helen Pennells said “Thank you to those who organised the day, it was a great day and good fun for all those spectating and taking part. We’re looking forward to organising the next Beach Games in July; which will be held for Cornwall College Employees, this I believe may end up being a very competitive day!”

The Camborne Campus team took 1st in the games with St Austell Campus teams taking 2nd and 3rd place. The Beach Games will return next year with more students, more games and hopefully less fog!
