The Creative Director of the world’s biggest online retailer says he would recommend Cornwall College to anyone interested in studying art. Stephen Uren, who studied Graphic Design at Cornwall College Camborne, is now the Creative Director of Amazon in Europe.
Stephen explained: “After leaving Pool Academy I joined the Diploma in Graphic Design at Cornwall College Camborne, I’d always had a great passion for design and I heard that the courses there were well respected. During my time there I thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and projects and particularly loved learning about how technology would shape the future of the design industry.”
Located in the high rise Tamar building and subsequent annexes, the large visual arts department has great success in nurturing award winning students and has a long list of awards and certificates adorning the walls.
Stephen continued: “When I left Cornwall College I joined the Epsom School of Art & Design on the BA Graphic Design course, following this I joined Saatchi and Saatchi in London, before joining Amazon. I would certainly recommend Cornwall College to anyone interested in studying art.”
Amazon currently employs over 12,000 people in the UK and that figure is likely to increase this year.
Curriculum Lead for Visual Arts at Cornwall College Camborne, Lisa Mortensen, added: “We are always delighted to learn of our past students successes and our ethos here is always to teach people on an individual basis, to help them develop.
“We want our students to experiment with techniques and to teach them new skills that they can use as their careers progress. Stephen was a classic student who started on a vocational course, continued onto degree level and joined an established business; we wish him continued success”.
Cornwall College Camborne is holding an informal careers advice event on Saturday 5th November between 10:00am and 12:00pm for anyone who is interested in discovering more about courses, opportunities and facilities on-site.
